Anti-Gerrymandering Watchdog Announces Its Support For Gerrymandering

Common Cause, a government surveillance group, historically, opposed to the partisan gerrymandering, announced Tuesday that it would not oppose the thrust of the Blue States for the redistribution in mid-cycle while criticizing the efforts led by the Republicans in Texas.
In a policy of policy on Tuesday, the common cause, which describes itself as a “non -partisan and popular organization dedicated to maintaining the fundamental values of American democracy”, refused to condemn the efforts of redistribution in the States led by Democrats as California. At the same time, the group accused President Trump and the Republicans of “continuing a calculated asymmetrical strategy” in Texas as part of a “wider march towards authoritarianism”.
California Governor of California Gavin Newsom and other Democratic governors have threatened to redraw the Congress Cartes of their State to counter a redistribution effort led by the GOP in Texas which could give the Republicans up to five additional seats.
“At the moment seriously, we understand why some states, including California, are considering measures of counterweight in response,” said Common cause in his policy statement. “We will not give the partisan gerrymandering even when its reason is to compensate for the more extreme gerrymandering by a different party. But a general conviction at the moment would be equivalent to a call to a unilateral political disarmament in the face of authoritarian efforts to undermine the fair representation and democracy fueled by people. ” (Related: the liberal media conscientiously ignoring the blatant hypocrisy of Illinois)

This marks a notable change for a common cause, which led a contextual fundraising window on its website last week, saying that Newsom “tried to copy the GOP game book to increase your profile”, according to Politico. In July, the group also called for attempts to rediscover the democratic cycle of the “anti-democratic” cycle cycle.
The group was also on the losing side of the 2019 Supreme Court case Rucho c. Common causein which he challenged what he called a card of the partisan and unconstitutional congress of North Carolina. The court judged that the federal courts could not intervene in the partisan gerrymandering.
The common cause has declared in his declaration that he would not condemn the efforts of redistribution in the middle of the cycle which follow his “equity criteria”, which require that the cards be redesigned proportionately to the threat posed by the Gerrymanders in other states, include the participation of the public in a form and expires when new cards take effect after the census of 2030, among other factors.
The common cause did not respond to the request for comments from the Daily Call News Foundation.
However, the efforts of Gerrymandering of California are faced with significant judicial disputes, because the State has set up an independent redistribution commission constitutes constitutionally since 2008. Newsom plans to call on a special election in November so that the voters approve a card of the revised congress.
Other Democratic governors, such as JB Pritzker From Illinois and Kathy Hochul from New York indicated their desire to redraw their Congress cards in response to the efforts led by Les Républicains. The redistribution process led by the Illinois Legislative Assembly offers flexibility for an attempted redistribution in mid-December, but the already very partisan card of the State leaves little room for a Gerrymandering.
