If you’re an Apple user, AirTags are the easiest way to track just about everything. Simply attach them to a wallet, key ring, suitcase or even a pet, and use the Find My app to see where they are. Currently, Walmart is selling the 1st generation AirTags for $13.91 (originally $29) – a new all-time high price, according to price trackers. This deal also represents much better value than buying a 4-pack, probably because the AirTag 2 was released earlier this year.

AirTags are primarily marketed for purses, keys, and travel bags (airlines are now embracing their use), but there are examples of people using them in much more creative ways, like putting them on a dog’s collar and training it to come back every time it presses the “play sound” function. The AirTag works with Apple’s network of iOS devices to maintain its precise location. Essentially, everyone with an iPhone (or iPad) is part of this iOS network, and as long as one of those people is within Bluetooth range of your AirTag, they will appear as the last location on your Find My app.

As you can see in PCMag’s “excellent” review of the AirTag, the Find My app has a screen that shows you the direction of your AirTag like a compass, including how far it is from you. There’s also an option to play sound, which is perfect for locating, say, a remote control buried under the couch.

What do you think of it so far?

Once the AirTag is more than 30 feet from your phone, the iOS users’ network kicks in. When the AirTag is within 30 feet, it uses your own Bluetooth. Apple has security measures in place, including end-to-end encryption, so that no one (not even Apple) knows where your AirTag is except you. Batteries last approximately one year and are replaceable. There are also no monthly fees for these, unlike competitors like Tile or Chipolo for Android users.
