Barcelona one step away from renewing 16-year-old La Masia jewel

Barcelona are closing in on securing one of the most promising midfielders in their youth system, with 16-year-old Hugo Garces set to renew his commitment to the club.
According to SPORT, negotiations between the two parties are progressing smoothly and confidence is growing that an agreement will be finalized soon.

Garces has been part of Barcelona’s academy since the summer of 2021, when he arrived from Zaragoza to join the under-12s.
Since then, his development has followed a constant upward curve, earning him recognition as one of La Masia’s most notable midfield profiles.
Compared to Gavi
In his early years at the club, Garces was often compared to Thiago Alcantara due to his technical quality, close control and ability to dictate play in tight spaces.
However, as his game evolved, his style took on a more dynamic dimension. Today, his profile is seen as closer to that of Gavi, particularly in terms of intensity, physical bravery and desire to attack the surface.

Starting today, Barcelona want Garces to sign his first professional contract as quickly as possible.
Having turned 16 last month, he is now legally eligible to do so, and the club sees this as a priority.
Everyone is aligned
Internally there is complete alignment between Barça and the player. Garces says he is fully committed to the club, where he grew up both as a footballer and as a person.

While the midfielder’s path to the first team is highly competitive, those who closely follow his progress highlight one trait above all: confidence.
Garces plays with personality, conviction and a winning mindset, qualities that often separate good young players from those capable of taking the final step.
The negotiations are not yet officially closed, but only minor details remain. If all goes according to plan, Barcelona will soon have another key academy talent as part of their long-term sporting vision.
