Bear’s new metal tooth is world’s biggest-ever crown

A brown bear received the largest dental wreath in history, have revealed representatives of Lake Superior in Minnesota.
The bear, named Tundra, fractured one of its four major canine teeth and needed a first -rate metal crown for protection. A veterinary dentist installed the silver cap specially designed in a successful one hour surgery at the zoo on June 23.
“Tundra the brown bear has just made dental history!” A representative of the Zoo du Lac Supérieur wrote in a Instagram job. “We are delighted to share that Tundra officially received the very first metal crown entirely placed on a bear – and it is also the largest veterinary crown ever created in the world!”
Tundra first broke his right canine in 2023. The zoo dentist initially treated the bear by giving him a radicular channel, but when Tundra later injured the same tooth, the zoo team decided that he needed a complete cover crown, according to a press release published by the zoo.
Creature Crowns, a specialized veterinary dental company based in Idaho, created the new Tundra crown from a casting of injured tooth, The Associated Press reported.

6 -year -old brown bear (Ursus Arctos) weighs approximately 800 pounds (360 kilograms) and, when standing on two legs, reaches a height of about 8 feet (2.4 meters). For the protection of the staff, Tundra was under sedation while the new crown was installed. The armed intervention team of the Zoo du Lake Supérieur also held custody while the veterinary dentist worked, in case Tundra wakes up before the end of his procedure – but he did not do so, reported the Associated Press.
Surgery has succeeded and Tundra eats normally again. Its new silver crown with full coverage is expected to protect the canine from additional injuries and bacterial infection.
“He now has a little glow with his smile,” said Caroline Routley, zoo marketing director at the Associated Press.
