If you had trouble accessing Bluesky this morning, you’re not alone. The social media platform experienced intermittent service outages on Thursday. This is evident from a look at Downdetector, which shows thousands of user reports of problems with Bluesky starting around 1:51 a.m. ET and actually starting at 2:21 a.m. ET. (Disclosure: Downdetector is owned by Lifehacker parent company Ziff Davis.)

Although my Bluesky feed appears to be working at the moment, there are still issues causing downtime for users and parts of the platform, including loading notifications. As of this article, Bluesky’s status page states: “We are investigating an incident with the service at one of our [regions],” and “We are having other problems. We appreciate your continued patience.” Bluesky previously said the issue had been resolved, so the platform may have difficulty isolating the root cause of the problem.

What do you think of it so far?

At this point, the exact cause of this downtime on Bluesky is unclear. That said, this issue will likely be resolved in due time. Websites sometimes go down for one reason or another, and aside from a catastrophic attack or problem, the source is usually discovered relatively quickly and a fix implemented soon after. My guess is that by some time today – perhaps by the time you read this article – Bluesky will be back up and running as usual.
