Brian Stelter Whines That Stephen Colbert Wasn’t ‘Given A Chance’ To Save ‘Late Show’

CNN media chief analyst Brian Stelter melted during an appearance Thursday evening on the network on the cancellation of the end-of-evening talk show by Stephen Colbert.
CBS announced Thursday that Colbert’s show would end in May 2026, citing a lack of profitability and adding that the show itself would be withdrawn at that time. Stelter raised questions about the moment, noting that Colbert was a critic of President Donald Trump. (Related: “How did it work?”
“Colbert is such a criticism of Trump Franc. He is back from vacation and as he showed on Monday during his first night back from vacation, he is also a thorn on the side of his parent company,” said Stelter, CNN host Anderson Cooper. “So, it looks like many of Colbert fans like any other form of CBS capitulation to the President of the United States. If you already look at Colbert’s Instagram page, his fans flow their hearts and blame CBS for that.”

“Here are the reports that I have just in the last minutes, Anderson, about this financial explanation. Think about 2023, when” The Late, late program with James Corden “made air. I pointed out at the time that this program had become not profitable, that CBS was unable to sell enough advertisements to make this beneficiary program, “said Stelter.” Well, this is now the case for Colbert.
Stelter suggested that Colbert may not have the opportunity to save the show, citing the merger waiting for Paramount with Skydance.
“However, it is not as if Colbert had the possibility of making a salary reduction or perhaps changing the format of the show, or leaving the Ed Sullivan Theater,” continued Stelter. “It seems to have happened both and he happens about to do on this great paramount-skid fusion. Who takes Skydance? Larry Ellison, a friend of President Trump and his son, David. So there is much more report.”
CBS paid a legal action of $ 10 billion filed by President Donald Trump for the modification of an interview of October 2024 with the president of the time, Kamala Harris, who was Trump’s opponent in the 2024 presidential election, attracting criticism from the interior of the company.
