SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Governor Gavin Newsom said there was no imminent threat to the state, despite an FBI warning that Iran could send drones to the West Coast in retaliation for the war.

Newsom said drone issues “have always been a priority.”

“We were aware of this information. (…) This is an attitude of preparation for the worst scenarios,” the governor said on Wednesday.

The FBI recently warned law enforcement that Iran may attempt to strike the state.

“Iran reportedly aspired to carry out a surprise attack using unmanned aerial vehicles from an unidentified vessel off the coast of the United States, specifically against unspecified targets in California, in the event the United States conducted strikes against Iran,” the alert said, according to ABC News.

“We have no additional information on the timing, method, target or perpetrators of this alleged attack,” the FBI said.

President Donald Trump was asked about it Wednesday at Joint Base Andrews.

“There’s an investigation underway, but there’s a lot going on. All we can do is take it as it comes,” Trump said.

Police in Los Angeles and San Francisco said they were monitoring global events for any risks to their cities. Both said they work closely with state and federal authorities.
