Canada ‘Caught Red-Handed’ Airing Altered Ad During World Series, Now There Are Consequences – RedState

Oops ! Canada may have thought it was safe after Friday’s brawl over the Ontario provincial government’s release of an ad featuring a misleadingly edited speech by President Ronald Reagan – in a failed attempt to make the former commander-in-chief appear anti-tariff – and a weak apology from Prime Minister Doug Ford.
As my colleague Katie Jerkovich wrote, the Reagan Presidential Library didn’t mince its words – saying it might take legal action – and rightly invited viewers to visit their YouTube channel to get the Gipper’s straight dope:
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute… responded and said the ad misrepresented Reagan’s speech and was altered without permission.
…
“The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute is currently reviewing its legal options in this matter,” the statement added. “We encourage you to watch the never-before-seen video of President Reagan on our YouTube channel.”
Jerkovich also shared the Ontario ad, so readers can make up their own minds about the situation:
Premier Ford said he would remove advertising from television networks, but not before Monday:
In response, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced his province would suspend ads on Monday in hopes that trade negotiations would resume after speaking with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
President Trump, however, jumped into this in a post on his Truth Social account, writing in the first:
The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada fraudulently used a false advertisement featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about tariffs. The ad cost $75,000,000.
They only did this to interfere with the decision of the United States Supreme Court and other courts. Tariffs are very important to the national security and economy of the United States. Due to their egregious behavior, all trade negotiations with Canada are terminated. Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DJT.

In other words, the love affair between our two nations had begun to cool down. And there’s just one problem with the Canadian politician who promised to pull the ad on Monday. Friday night marked the start of the World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays. We’ll talk about that in a moment.
Here is another Truth Social message from the president published on Friday, which has now become relevant in light of Saturday’s update:
The World Series starts tonight against the Commies du Nord 🇨🇦
Go Dodgers!!🇺🇸

Perhaps also in the mix are the not-so-friendly political jabs aimed at the president. Trump before Friday’s game in this truly cringeworthy video featuring Ford and California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom on their “friendly bet”:
As the Blue Jays head to the World Series against the LA Dodgers, @CAgouverneur Newsom and I have a friendly bet. Win or lose, we’re excited to celebrate good baseball, good neighbors, and friendship between Ontario and California! pic.twitter.com/88iH7pTifu

That’s where the other shoe dropped, readers. It has not escaped President Trump’s notice that the Government of Canada allowed the prime-time commercial of Reagan’s edited speech to air during Game 1 of the World Series.
Trump is not happy, to say the least. Now there are consequences. Guess who has to pay an extra 10% in customs duties?

“Canada was caught red-handed releasing a fraudulent ad about Ronald Reagan’s speech on tariffs,” Trump wrote. “The Reagan Foundation said it ‘created an advertising campaign using selective audio and video of President Ronald Reagan. The ad misrepresents the President’s radio speech’ and ‘did not request or receive permission to use and edit the remarks. The Ronald Reagan Foundation and Presidential Institute are currently reviewing their legal options in this matter.’
“The sole purpose of this FRAUD,” he added, “was Canada’s hope that the United States Supreme Court would come to its aid on the tariffs it used for years to harm the United States. The United States is now able to defend itself against high and heavy-handed Canadian tariffs (and those of the rest of the world as well!). Ronald Reagan loved tariffs for national security and economic purposes, but Canada said he didn’t do it! ”
“Their ad was supposed to be taken down IMMEDIATELY, but they let it run last night during the World Series knowing it was a FRAUD,” Trump continued. “Due to their serious misrepresentation of facts and hostile act, I am increasing tariffs on Canada by 10% beyond what they currently pay. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
It is only lip service to remove advertising from the airwaves days laterwhen the damage is already done. And what audience to reach each year at one of America’s most beloved sporting events; the goal was to propagandize Americans — and perhaps — our country’s legal system, amid ongoing lawsuits filed against the administration. Why else would they leave him on the World Series?
This is a sad way to show goodwill and sportsmanship, Canucks.
