Cass County Prosecutor Noah Schafer announced Friday that he plans to file for reelection in 2026.

Initially elected in 2019, Schafer wrote in a press release sent to the Pharos-Tribune that he would like to continue his “commitment to justice, public safety, and community partnership.”

“Serving as Cass County Prosecutor has been the greatest honor of my professional life,” Schafer wrote. “Over the past several years, I have worked hard to build a safer community, support victims, and ensure that our courts and law enforcement agencies have the tools they need to hold offenders accountable. There’s still work to do, and I want to continue that mission with the same integrity and dedication that Cass County residents deserve.”

Since taking office, the press release stated, Cass County’s IV-D Child Support Division has been recognized multiple times for excellence in collections. His office also doubled its trial output to reduce the backlog of cases during and after the COVID-19 shutdown, the press release added, while Schafer personally tries major cases.

Schafer also wrote that he has modernized case management systems, expanded multilingual communication capacity and has continued to strengthen relationships with local law enforcement agencies.

Outside of the courtroom, the press release stated, Schafer speaks at local schools and community organizations. He is also active in the Cass County Domestic Violence Task Force and at All Saints Catholic Church, where he serves as a lector and has chaired men’s prayer groups and fundraisers including the Two Rivers Trivia Nights. Schafer also coaches and sponsors youth sports, supports 4-H programs and serves as a Republican Precinct Committeeman.

Schafer and his wife, Daphne, live in Logansport with their four children.

He was born in Lafayette, where he grew up as the oldest of six children in a Catholic family. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1992 before earning degrees in business and English literature at Purdue University. The press release said he credits those early experiences for shaping his faith, work ethic and sense of justice.

Schafer earned his law degree from Indiana University before joining the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office where he began his now 25-year prosecution career. He also served on the Marion County Homicide Unit, which saw him try more than two dozen murder cases with more than 90% convicted, according to the press release.

From Marion County, Schafer went on to serve as the chief deputy prosecutor in Pike County and, after, in Cass County. The press release stated he handled most of the county’s jury trials in that role and managed daily operations of the office while working closely with law enforcement.

Declarations of candidacy open on Jan. 7.
