A recent webinar hosted by some of the major teachers unions in the United States, which advocated an agenda focused on the upcoming May Day protests, is prompting education experts and watchdogs to sound the alarm about alleged political indoctrination in classrooms.

The Chicago Teachers’ Union and the National Education Association collaborated with the Zinn Education Project on an April 2 seminar called “Curriculum Development” to “bring “social justice into the classroom” before May Day, the traditional May Day holiday that has long been embraced by communist and socialist movements as a day of mass political action.

“There’s probably going to be much worse things that Trump does, and so May Day is a dress rehearsal for maybe there’s a random day, you know, in June where we’re all out of work, out of school, out of shopping, because of something Pete just did, right?” Chicago Public Schools history teacher Dave Stieber said during the presentation.

“So it’s a continuation and accumulation of that.”

The webinar also included advice on how educators can introduce activism into the classroom, including with very young students, with speakers encouraging lessons focused on activism for children as young as three, showcasing such engagement as a way to raise awareness and participation from an early age.

“I wanted to say that I really encourage teachers of young children to not feel like this is way beyond their students, to not be afraid to raise social justice issues, including workers’ rights, anti-racism, pro LGBT issues, LGBTQIA plus, immigration and immigrant rights,” Kirstin Roberts, a kindergarten teacher in Chicago Public Schools, said at the seminar.

The North American Values Institute (NAVI), which put the seminar online for the first timesays unions are trying to “prepare” students to promote social justice agendas during protests across the United States, including May Day.

“The webinar clearly demonstrates that our teachers unions view students as foot soldiers in their political and ideological battles and the classroom as an appropriate venue to wage their war,” Mika Hackner, research director at NAVI, told Fox News Digital.

During the seminar, one of the lessons on “building the May 1 program” aims to make the upcoming event less “scary” for children.

“In this lesson, we really want to introduce the idea that there will be marches and protests on May 1,” says Roberts.

“Sometimes these look really scary on the news and so we, or in social media, and so we want to share with our children images of protests that enhance the beauty and humanity of the people involved.”

The Chicago Teachers’ Union, which was lobby for schools to be closed on May 1has long faced criticism for pushing far-left political points on the classroom agenda and encouraging teachers to take to the streets to oppose the Trump administration.

Earlier this year, Fox News Digital reported that the CTU appears willing to spend a substantial amount of money on “political activities,” to the tune of $3.1 million.

In January, CTU members filmed themselves protesting federal immigration enforcement and anti-DEI measures at a local Target, attract criticism both online and from experts.

“It is very clear that teachers unions are seeking to destroy our country by turning our students against them,” Ryan Walters, CEO of Teacher Freedom Alliance, told Fox News Digital.

“The Chicago teachers union is one of the worst. The fact that they are targeting students as young as 3 with this anti-American propaganda should be criminal. Teachers unions will continue to use students as Marxist pawns until we drive them out of our schools.”

The NEA has also found itself facing criticism over political activism in recent months, which Fox News Digital has reported on extensively, including federal labor filings in January that showed the nation’s largest teachers union funneling millions to far-left activist groups, ballot initiatives and social justice organizations.

“They don’t care about students, they care about pushing these left-liberal Democrats [politicians] so they can get more money and just fund all these stupid initiatives,” an NEA whistleblower told Fox News Digital in January.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the NEA, CTU, Chicago Public Schools and the Zinn Project for comment.
