New Iran Talks Could Kick Off in Pakistan Within 48 Hours – RedState

Well, that’s a bit unexpected. While the naval blockade of Iranian ports and Iranian shipping has been in place for only a few hours, President Trump is indicating the possibility of a new round of negotiations between Iran and the United States in the coming days.
President Donald Trump said Tuesday that new peace talks between the United States and Iran could take place within days in Pakistan, signaling a possible resumption of negotiations after recent high-level meetings ended without any progress.
“You should really stay there because something could happen in the next couple of days,” Trump told the New York Post. “We’re more inclined to go.”
And why not? The United States holds all the cards. The Iranian Air Force no longer exists. Their navy, except for a few speedboats now bottled up in Iranian ports, is entirely on the ocean floor, including one that will go down in history as the first hostile warship sunk by a U.S. submarine torpedo since World War II. The Revolutionary Guards are still making a lot of noise, but there is little they can do about the naval blockade that is slowly choking the Islamic Republic.
At this point, the United States has nothing to lose by engaging in even more threatening action, because the war has already been decided largely in favor of America and Israel. Additionally, President Trump appears to have some confidence in Pakistan as a mediator.
Trump highlighted his relationship with Pakistani Field Marshal General Asim Munir as one of the main reasons for choosing Islamabad as a potential venue.
“He’s fantastic…the marshal is doing a great job,” Trump said, adding, “Why should we go to a country that has nothing to do with this?”
As of this writing, no date has been set for such negotiations, and Iran has expressed no interest in further negotiations. According to all reports, Pakistan is engaged with both sides to hold further talks.

Poll shows overwhelming support for Trump’s Iran goals, but concerns about evolving conflict
In any new negotiation, the sticking point for Iran will inevitably be the same: nuclear weapons. Iran is stubbornly determined to maintain what remains of its nuclear program (not much) and to continue or resume uranium enrichment. The Trump administration is also determined to ensure that under no circumstances will Iran, under the leadership of the mullahs, be allowed to continue its enrichment or nuclear development.
Sooner or later, Iranians will have to accept the reality: the old rules are gone. America no longer does things the old way. The talks could well result in serious concessions from Iran, including a halt to all nuclear development, and Iran will have to realize that this is the only way to reach an agreement. In the meantime, the United States should keep its grip tight. Keep Iranian ports closed. Stop tankers from sailing. Denying Iran everything it needs to continue living as a country. Then, hopefully, a new Iran will emerge from the old, one more willing to join the modern world.
Editor’s note: For decades, former presidents did nothing but talk. Now, Donald Trump eliminates the Iranian threat once and for all.
