Charlie Kirk Shooting Suspect Charged as Prosecutor Seeks Death Penalty

The Utah County prosecutors charged Tyler Robinson on Tuesday in the deadly death of the conservative activist Charlie Kirk at the University of Utah Valley, according to a murder, politically motivated officials. They intend to ask for the death penalty.

Utah County Prosecutor Jeff Gray announced the indictment at a press conference at noon, released aggravated accusations of murder, the criminal release of a firearm causing serious bodily injuries and the commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child. Gray said that murder was considered an aggravated offense because he was considered motivated by the victim’s political expression. Regarding the death penalty, he added: “I do not make this decision lightly, and this is a decision that I made independently as a county prosecutor on the basis of the evidence and the available circumstances and the nature of the crime.”

Robinson will make his first appearance in court at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
