Check Out Sierra’s Gameplay in This New Overwatch Trailer

The next Overwatch hero is Sierra, the gun-wielding gunman, the sixth hero of the following year. five new heroes were added during the popular online shooter Talon’s Reign season 1. A day after releasing the hero trailer, which showed Sierra in combat with Emre and Freja, developer Blizzard released a gameplay trailer for the damage hero.
Sierra is a mobile damage hero who can reposition herself in the air with her drone. She seems to have a mix of Sojourn’s main fire and Freja’s mobility, with a few extra grenades thrown in. Here’s what we learned about his kit from the gameplay trailer.
Sierra Capabilities
- Primary Fire: Sierra fires her fully automatic weapon. Bullets look like projectiles, which means they have a travel time.
- Drone: In the trailer, Sierra uses her drone, which she calls Dorothy, to hover above enemies, jump to heights, and dodge enemy abilities.
- Homing Dart: Sierra can fire a homing dart. If he lands on an enemy, his next bullets will track that hero, like Juno’s pulse torpedoes or Halo’s Needler.
- Grenade: We see some shots of Sierra throwing a frag grenade at the enemies below her, causing damage in a small area.
- Ultimate: Sierra’s drone flies forward and drops widespread explosive damage.
What else do we know about Overwatch’s next hero?
Blizzard revealed its first look at Sierra last week, and a few details in the new artwork seemed to match expectations that she would be an ally to damage hero Ashe. Ashe’s Deadlock Gang is mentioned in the new trailer, although Sierra is working with Overwatch to try to stop them. We don’t yet know if Sierra has any connections to other Overwatch heroes and factions.
Alec Dawson, associate game director at Overwatch, said in February that the next hero would be another damage hero with a “really satisfying skill shot,” which appears to be his homing dart.
As much as I love a good skill shot, the game has struggled with dealing damage to heroes over the past year, especially heroes who have the ability to quickly take out someone out of nowhere. The most recent damage heroes, Anran and Emre, did not have this problem, but the previous two, Freja and Vendetta, were consistently banned by players after release due to their speed to kill, combined with their ability to consistently surprise enemies. Sierra’s skill shot appears to be less flashy, which would be a relief, but the hero trailer doesn’t show exactly how much damage you can expect if you get stuck.
Season 1 ends next week. The current season kicked off the year-long storyline of Vendetta taking control of Talon and also introduced five new heroes to the roster. The developers have promised a new hero each season over the course of the storyline, and Sierra appears to be moving the story forward as a key character fighting against Talon’s continued efforts to seize power and destroy Overwatch.
