Credit Bureau TransUnion Hit With Data Breach Affecting 4.4 Million People

The main office of the Crédit Transunion has undergone a data violation which has exposed sensitive information belonging to 4.4 million customers, including the names and social security numbers.

Data violation took place on July 28. A transunion spokesperson told CNET that the incident had been identified and contained in a few hours. The credit office informs people who may have been assigned that their information could be exposed and share the actions that the company has.

The law firm for consumer rights, Wolf Haldenstein, issued an alert on violation and encouraged those who received an opinion and saw an unusual activity on their credit report to contact.

Two separate state deposits have allowed more details on the situation. A legal file in Maine shows that Transunion has recognized unauthorized access from a third -party application that has stored personal customer data. Although consumer advice indicates that no credit information has been consulted, “limited personal information” has been exposed. However, another Texas depot declares that the names of individuals, social security numbers and birth dates have been exposed in the violation.

The transunion spokesperson also said that the violation concerned a third-party application at the service of its support operations for American consumers, but has not included its credit database or its basic credit reports. The Bureau has hired third -party cybersecurity experts for an independent review of legal medicine.
