Trump Hands Democrats Golden Goose Ahead Of Midterms
President Donald Trump may have handed Democrats a victory.
On Monday, Trump said foreign workers represent essential “talent,” a quality Americans lack.

“And does this mean that the H-1B visa issue will not be a high priority for your administration? Fox News personality Laura Ingraham asked the president. “Because if you want to raise the wages of American workers, you can’t flood the country with tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands, of foreign workers. »

Trump’s firing of American workers sparked immediate and widespread backlash from his base. This appears to contradict a statement made in the first months of his first term.: “The H-1B program is not about high-skilled workers or immigration: it is about temporary foreign workers, imported from abroad, for the explicit purpose of replacing lower-paid American workers…I will forever end the use of the H-1B as a cheap labor program and establish an absolute requirement to hire American workers first for every visa and immigration program. No exceptions.
Mark Mitchell, head of polling at Rasmussen Reports, published a flood of testimonies sent to him by disgruntled Americans.

“Trump lost the youth vote this week, and probably well beyond that demographic. I spent 30 years at a software company and watched our company replace 90% of employees with young people.” [H-1Bs]. Most of them lied about their references, it was obvious,” one message begins.
“In a 20+ year career in technology and as a consultant for a software company, I’ve worked with hundreds and hundreds of H-1B technicians. They’re not talented. They’re certainly not used to training Americans. In fact, it’s the opposite: they come in untrained, the Americans train the H-1Bs, and then the Americans lose their jobs… For 10 years, my normal experience with an H-1B technician was that I had to explain the basic skills of their job, over and over again, for those who just got off the plane and for those who have been in their job for years, they don’t practice or even learn,” another person wrote.
“I sincerely doubt that President Trump is aware of the political damage he has done to himself and the right in general. This interview with Laura Ingraham was the political equivalent of being headbutted with a thermonuclear warhead…AT MINIMUM 85% of his base feels this way,” writes yet another correspondent.
Mitchell’s conclusion: The H-1B visa “is a toxic third rail, and should probably never be defended again.”
The Democrats lost horribly in 2024, for placing themselves directly on top of the third rails: open borders, weird transgender stuff, racial grievances.
Today, smart Democrats are taking advantage of the ground ceded by Trump.
See: Amy Acton, Democratic candidate for governor of Ohio. Acton fired back at an infamous December 2024 social media post from rising conservative star Vivek Ramaswamy, who is now the Republican front-runner in the Ohio gubernatorial race.
In his lengthy article, Ramaswamy asserts that “large tech companies often hire foreign-born and first-generation engineers rather than ‘native’ Americans, not because of an ‘innate American IQ deficit,’ but because of American culture.”
“Our American culture has for too long worshiped mediocrity over excellence…A culture that celebrates the prom queen rather than the Math Olympiad champion, or the athlete rather than the valedictorian, will not produce the best engineers.
Ramaswamy called for “a a culture that once again prioritizes success over normality; excellence rather than mediocrity; nerdiness rather than conformity; hard work rather than laziness. This is the work we have done for us, rather than wallowing in victimhood and simply wishing (or legislating) alternative hiring practices into existence.
Ramaswamy’s hypothesis is similar to Trump’s: Companies hire foreign workers not because they are cheaper, but because they are more talented (or harder-working) than Americans.
Acton’s response, published Wednesday: “Vivek Ramaswamy told us how he really feels when he says Ohioans aren’t successful because they’re lazy and mediocre and they watch too much TV.
“This couldn’t be further from what I see on the ground every day. Ohioans are working harder than ever, they’re doing everything right and they just can’t get enough of a breather. Ohio needs a governor who listens, understands and is willing to cut costs on day one.”
Which is more appealing to voters: a governor who actively insults their work ethic, implying they were rightly passed over for a job, or a governor who doesn’t?
Abby Phillip, a liberal CNN host, criticized the H-1B visa program during a panel with businessman Kevin O’Leary.

“I’m not fighting against people on H-1B visas, I’m a daughter of immigrants, both my parents were naturalized citizens of this country…I’m saying people have real concerns about companies abusing the system,” Phillip began.
“…We’re talking about genius,” O’Leary interrupted, “bringing 65,000 geniuses to America.”
“Kevin, you know it’s not all geniuses. Sometimes… they abuse the system and somehow bring in middle or low wage workers…”
When Phillip is more “America First” than President Trump, something is seriously wrong.
There is a path forward for anti-immigration (or limited immigration) Democrats.
Senate Judiciary Democrats protested corporate abuse of the H-1B visa program in September, writing an open letter to Andrew Jassy, Amazon’s chairman and CEO.
“Amazon has laid off tens of thousands of employees in recent years. At the same time you’re laying off your employees, you’re filing H-1B visa applications for tens of thousands of foreign workers.”
Before he became the old face of racial and climate communism, independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders spoke out against H-1B visas.

The primary function of the H-1B visa program is not to hire “the best and the brightest,” but rather to replace high-paying U.S. jobs with low-wage indentured servants from abroad.

“And these are companies whose main argument is, ‘We just can’t find Americans to do this job, and we just have to travel the world to get people.’ …They tell us they need more H-1B visas because Americans are simply not smart enough to be computer professionals, engineers, college professors… accountants… financial analysts, nurses… psychologists… lawyers… and elementary school teachers… If Americans are not taking low-skill jobs that pay poverty wages, and probably if they are not smart enough to do high-skill jobs, I think the The question we need to ask ourselves is: What kind of jobs will be available to Americans? If Democrats manage to accept such arguments, Republicans could face a nasty defeat in 2026 and 2028.
