Delta Air Lines Flight Diverted Due to Kitchen Fire
A recent international flight of Delta Air Lines had to be diverted shortly after takeoff due to a fire in one of its galleys.
The incident occurred aboard Delta Flight DL-55 in Lagos, Nigeria, Atlanta on September 23, according to Paddle Your Own Kanoo (Pyok). About 40 minutes after the start of the flight, the crew members noticed a “small -scale fire” of one of the ovens of the kitchen caused by “food debris on the heating element of the oven”, reported USA Today.
The fire would have been contained in the oven, but the plane was still to be diverted to Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana.
Upon arrival, the maintenance teams responded and inspected the plane, finding no damage. No one was injured in the small fire either.
What happened?
A cause of the fire has not yet been determined, paddling your own kanoo. The potential start -up starters in galleys include fat or food residues in an oven, catering installation or dysfunction of the equipment.
“On -board agents have annual recycling training to combat various fire scenarios aboard an airplane, and oven fires in the kitchen, and are almost always covered. In most cases, the fire can be contained by insulating the electrical power in the oven.
“If there are visible flames, the cabin crew can unload a Halon fire extinguisher in the oven, or use fire fighting gloves to eliminate foreign debris causing fire and submerge it in the water,” said Mateusz Maszczynski of Pyok.

Has the flight arrived in Atlanta?
Finally, yes. The passengers were blocked in Accra, but received night housing.
The Delta flight finished his trip to Atlanta two days later on September 25.
“As nothing is more important than the security of our customers and our crew, the driving crew followed the procedures and diverted safely to the nearest international airport,” said Delta spokesman Berj Alexanian. “We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travel plans and we thank them for their patience.”
