Democrat Rep Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick Guilty Of Violating 25 House Rules, Ethics Panel Finds

Florida Democratic Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick is guilty of violating more than two dozen House rules after allegedly embezzling millions of dollars in COVID-19 emergency funds and funneling them to her campaign, a House ethics committee determined Friday.
The bipartisan committee found the congresswoman guilty of all but two of the 27 charges against her and issued its decision after a rare public hearing that lasted seven hours Thursday. The panel said it would hold another hearing after the Easter break to determine whether it would recommend any sanction against him. The committee found that the Florida Democrat used her family’s businesses to funnel $5 million in COVID-19 emergency funds into her 2021 special election campaign to replace the late former Democratic Rep. Alcee Hastings.
The panel also found her guilty of accepting and failing to properly document illegal in-kind contributions from an organization with ties to her former campaign manager who oversaw her 2021 and 2022 campaigns.

Following Thursday’s proceedings, during which Cherfilus-McCormick did not speak publicly, Florida Republican Rep. Greg Stuebe called for the congresswoman to be expelled, writing, “the American people deserve better than corruption in Congress.”
“Money laundering. False statements. Illegal campaign contributions. Concealing financial disclosures. And Democrats still defend this?” Stuebe said in a social media post Thursday evening. “This is shameful. The American people deserve better than corruption in Congress. I am ready to expel Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick!”
The congresswoman was also indicted by the Justice Department in November and faces up to 53 years in prison if convicted of all 15 of her federal charges. His trial will likely begin next month and extend into the summer.
