It was not a passionate speech. But it turned out to be a premonitory point.

In the hours preceding match 1 of the series of the National League Division on Saturday evening, the Dodgers offensive was gathered for their typical pre-match strikers’ meeting when Aaron Bates, one of the successful coaches, spoke and recalled the room.

In this series, Bates knew that there would be moments of adversity. And in this stage, where 45,000 crazy fans of Philadelphia Phillies created one of the best advantages of the field of all bullets, the Dodgers had to be ready to react and respond.

“The intensity and the fans were going to be there at the start of the match,” he said, as the inner field player Miguel Rojas later recalled him.

“If something is happening early, if Schwarber reaches an 800 feet and the roof blows from this place, do not worry,” he added, according to the third basic player Max Muncy, “because when they died silent in the seventh or eighth rounds and we win, that’s all that will be important.”

In the nine rounds that followed, that’s exactly how the script took place.

The phillies picked up an early punch, in ambush Shohei Ohtani with a second round of three sleeves which made the Citizens Bank Park tremble at the scale of a small earthquake.

Then, the Dodgers responded back, gathering to a 5-3 resilient victory which gave them a very important lightness in this series of the best five.

“This is a message that when you hear it, it seems silly,” said Muncy about the pre-match recall of Bates. “But, there is a lot of truth. When you enter places like this, it’s very hostile, it’s very strong.”

It was certainly in the second round, when JT Realmuto struck a triple of two points which opened the scoring and hit the reigning champions on the carpet.

But as they have shown so often in the last two Octobres, even when they are broken down, they never seem to be absent.

“Pass through the strong crowd and this kind of thing,” said Bates, mining reducing the speech of the meeting of his strikers. “Just be sure to stick to your plan, to stick to it. And we did a good job by doing this. ”

The dodgers raised the shoulders of early adversity, ohtani allowing no other damage on the beginning of six rounds; Completing its beginnings in the playoff series with nine stick withdrawals and four monumental frameworks after the second.

Their alignment, meanwhile, has dismissed the deficit, chasing the Phillies Ace and the Cy Young Cristopher Sánchez candidate on the double of two withdrawals from Kiké Hernández in the sixth.

In the seventh, Knockout arrived on a Teoscar Hernández game decoration swing. With two rounds in the round, and the phillies at the edge of an escape, he castigated a shot in three points.

Just like that, the south of Philadelphia remained silent.

“When you can hear a pin falling into the stadium, it is the ultimate feeling of baseball,” said Muncy. “I felt like people of the upper bridge could hear us encourage in the canoe.”

At the start of the match on Saturday, the intimidating phillies stadium provided the opposite environment.

Sánchez sculpted dodgers strikers with nasty leads and the table’s fall changes. On the other side, Ohtani met in trouble at the bottom of the second.

The Channel started with a walk to Alec Bohm, when Ohtani missed with a quick account of accounts. This was followed by a single by Brandon Marsh, which obtained a quick ball at the bottom in an account of 2 and 2 and fired a base in the center.

While Ohtani was trying to settle down, a choir of racile songs – Sho-Hei! Sho-Hei! – came to rain around him.

Then the pandemonium was unleashed on a realmuto swing.

After missing with a first field cursor in Realmuto, Ohtani left a radiator of 100.2 MPH in the heart of the area. The location has made speed out of purpose. Realmuto went bankrupt, sent a training line by screaming in the right center, then collapsed until the third after the ball exceeded Teuscar Hernández in the gap.

A fly ball two strikers later – which served as a sacrifice fly thanks to the inability of Hernández to cut the ball on Triple of Realmuto earlier – did it 3-0.

In the moment (and with the way Sánchez was close to), it looked like an almost insurmountable advance.

In the canoe, however, the dodgers have redesigned the pre-match message of Bates.

They were staggered, but did not submit. They were shaken, but not destroyed.

“I have to give credit to Aaron Bates on that one. He made sure that all the strikers knew it,” said Muncy. “You just have to find a meterer way that associate and understand what is the final goal.”

The turnaround started with Ohtani, who, despite the withdrawal four times as a striker, followed the triple from Realmuto by retiring the following 10 he faced. His only other problem occurred in the fifth, when the two lower strikers of the Phillies order reached the base with a withdrawal. But even then, Ohtani completed, bringing Trea Turner out and Kyle Schwarber swallows through a curve ball that ended the Channel.

During the night, Ohtani and the dodgers readers limited the three talls of the Phillies of Turner, Schwarber and Bryce Harper in a single time in 11 Au Bats.

“I use the word compartmentalizing a lot, but that embodies compartmentalization,” said manager Dave Roberts about Ohtani. “To go there and give us six sleeves, keep us in the ball game, I do not know any human who can manage this, these emotions. How don’t you take [the hitting struggles] at the mound?

Finally, the Dodgers offensive also found life.

With two withdrawals in the sixth, and Sánchez having abandoned only two strokes all night, Freddie Freeman triggered a rally with a march of five pass. Tommy Edman took a lead in the other direction to put two on board.

This spoke of Kiké Hernández, who continued his habit of October heroism by jumping on a Sánchez cursor who caught a little too much plates. Hernández endured a line by car on the line of the left field. Freeman and Edman have marked, the latter traveling a shutdown before slipping safely on the plate.

Just like that, Sánchez was eliminated from the game. What had been a noisy crowd earlier was suddenly tense.

Then, in the seventh, Teoscar Hernández finished the return.

After Andy Pages led with a simple and Will Smith (who entered the fifth round match after missing the joker with a fractured hand) was struck by a field of David Robertson, the Phillies summoned the first left -handed lift Matt Strahm and saw him do it once before her career).

However, by obtaining Strahm on the mound, the dodgers had favorable right -wing clashes. Mookie Betts could not take advantage of it, jumping in the third for the second withdrawal. Hernández, on the other hand, did not miss, sending a high ball high sailing high in the night of fall.

“I watched videos [of him]. He likes to get into the strike area. I think that’s where it is stronger, “said Hernández.”[I was] Do not try to go beyond or something like that. Try to bring a round to equalize the match. But he left it above the striking area. »»

And while the ball lands in the right field, the ball stadium once fell into amazed silence.

Back in the canoe, Muncy said: “Many people were screaming on Bates, like” Hey, you were right! “”

Bates, once again, died when he was asked for the moment.

“We were really excited that Teo finally got it,” he said. “It was a big swing, using the whole field. That’s what Teo does. He held his plan throughout the day. And then they make a mistake and he takes it.”

However, the attitude he had preached before the match had helped the dodgers go back. And from there, a new surveys’ enclosure plan managed to collect the last nine withdrawals.

The start of the match of match 4, Tyler Glasnow, came in relief from Ohtani to the seventh and launched an aimless round that ended on a double game ball. He left behind a base jam in the eighth, but was bailed up when Alex Vesia obtained a fly ball to end the Channel.

The ninth belonged to Roki Sasaki, newly ascending, who continued his resurgence at the end of the season as a lifter by working around a double at Max Kepler to recover his first career stop.

And when the final was recorded, Somber Phillies fans spent a quiet night.

“We knew we were going to win in the seventh round. He said it,” said Rojas, referring to Bates’ speech once again. “He said that we were going to have the opportunity to come back in the match, and it happened. The guys stayed together. … That’s why we are a team.”
