‘Don’t Say His Name, For Heaven’s Sake’: Kristi Noem Slams CBS Host For Naming ICE Agent Amid Death Threats

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem slammed the Face The Nation host after she named the officer involved in the recent Minneapolis shooting.
Noème joined Margaret Brennan on CBS segment on Face The Nation Sunday to discuss recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in Minnesota, including the Jan. 7 shooting that resulted in the death of Renee Good.
Brennan specifically mentioned the name of the ICE officer involved in the shooting. “Let me tell you about Officer Jonathan Ross, he was hit, he was hospitalized,” Brennan said before Noem angrily cut her off.
“Well, don’t say his name, I mean, for heaven’s sake, we shouldn’t let people continue to harass law enforcement when they’re experiencing an 8,000 percent increase in death threats against them,” Noem said. “He was attacked with a car trying to kill him, and then people attacked him and his family, and they’re in danger, and we have law enforcement officers every day getting death threats, getting attacked in their hotels, and having ice thrown at them.”
Noem also talked about how this particular incident was a tragedy, but how grateful she was that the officer involved protected himself and those around him.
“This officer relied on his training to defend his life and to defend those around him, and we are grateful to be in a situation where we hope more people will not weaponize their vehicles in this way. We see this happen over and over again. We have seen over a hundred different vehicles weaponized and attack law enforcement,” Noem continued.
Noem also said she hoped that Democratic Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey would work with President Trump’s administration to keep the streets safe and allow protesters to express their First Amendment rights in a way that would not hinder ICE operations. A YouGov poll conducted between January 9 and 11 showed that 53% of respondents believe Ross should face criminal charges for his actions. His whereabouts are currently unknown, as he and his family went into hiding after the shooting, and DHS has refused to release any information for security reasons.
An Oct. 30 DHS report showed that death threats against ICE agents have increased 8,000 percent since Trump took office.
