Eaton fire sent a pollution wave across Los Angeles, study shows

Smoke from the 2025 Eaton Fire did more than darken the skies: It generated an increase in carbon monoxide and particulate matter that far exceeded Los Angeles County’s average daily human-caused emissions, according to a new study led by researchers at the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. The results are published in the journal ACS ES&T Air.
