Faint Meow Leads to Miracle Mississippi Post-Tornado Kitten Rescue – RedState

With all the problems in the world, war, pestilence, oppression, poverty, disease, democrats, it’s nice to see something that does some unambiguous good every once in a while. This is one; Following the terrible tornadoes that caused so much damage in the great state of Mississippi, a man was sifting through the rubble and was alerted to the presence of a tiny survivor by an equally tiny meow.
As storm chaser Ashton Lemley made his way through a tornado-ravaged Mississippi trailer park, he heard the unmistakable meow of a kitten pierce the pre-dawn darkness.
The houses were razed a few hours earlier while storms spawned at least three tornadoes in the lower half of Mississippi, injuring a dozen people at the trailer park in the rural community of Bogue Chitto.
Lemley had no idea where the kitten was, but he was determined to find it. After a few minutes, the meowing stopped, and Lemley feared the worst.
Then, five minutes later, he heard it again.
“I said, ‘Oh, he’s still alive!'” Lemley told The Associated Press on Thursday.
Anyone who doesn’t answer this has surely given up their humanity. Left, right, middle, no matter where you are on the political spectrum, it’s hard to imagine someone not responding to a kitten’s cry of distress.
Lemley quickly dug under the insulation of a flattened wall until the beam of his flashlight found the kitten – wet, scared and hiding between two wooden posts.
Lemley captured the moment on video: “Oh my God, I found it!” he said to the camera. “Are you okay? Come here – it’s okay. …We’ll clean you up, baby. Don’t worry.”
Lemley held the kitten in his arms for a few minutes before handing him to the commander of the United Cajun Navy, a volunteer disaster response group, who dried him off and brought him to safety. Lemley was surprised that he didn’t appear to be injured.
It’s a heartwarming story. Even in times of disaster, a kitten’s life matters.

Cats are probably one of the first animals to associate with humans, and unlike many of our pets, our relationship with cats originally had benefits for both parties. Early human dwellings were not very hygienic and attracted vermin. The cats quickly learned that human camps were good hunting grounds for rats and mice. Humans learned that cats kept nasty vermin in check. It was a good deal for both, although now it’s not achieved in quite the same way; As the saying goes, “Dogs have owners, cats have staff”.
However, few humans have summed up cats better than Rudyard Kipling:
But the Cat also keeps his end of the bargain. He will kill mice and he will be good to babies when he is in the house, as long as they don’t pull his tail too hard. But when he has done this, and between times, and when the moon rises and night comes, he is the Cat who walks alone, and all places are the same to him. Then he goes out into the damp wild woods or into the damp wild trees or onto the damp wild roofs, waving his wild tail and walking beside his wild loner.
The kitten will be put up for adoption. His savior, however, will not take care of the little one. Ashton Lemley, it seems, is allergic to cats.
