Floyd Mayweather downgrades Manny Pacquiao rematch to exhibition, still hunting for suitable location

I guess it’s not “settled” after all.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is scheduled to face Manny Pacquiao on September 19, for some reason, but what was originally supposed to be a professional fight has now been downgraded to an exhibition match. Additionally, handlers are still trying to find a suitable location.

Perhaps the “Money” team was in for a shock after getting that multi-million dollar Sphere estimate.
“Right now we don’t know exactly where the fight is going to be,” Mayweather told Vegas Sports Today. “We don’t know the location of the fight. The Sphere is one of the places they talked about. We don’t know if it’s going to be there a hundred percent. And it’s not really a fight, it’s an exhibition. It’s an exhibition, so we’re both winners. We just want to go there and entertain people and put on a good show.”
Mayweather beat Manny Pacquiao more than a decade ago in a fight that was already ten years too late.
Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) was last seen grinding his way through back-to-back fights against John Gotti III, part of his exhibition retirement tour that still hasn’t generated enough to pay that bill. As for Pacquiao (62-8-3), he recently ended his retirement to draw against Mario Barrios last July in Las Vegas.

“Money” turned 49 last month, making it about two years older than “Pac Man.” Mayweather is also attached to a Mike Tyson fight in Africa, but that fight has also seen its fair share of changes. Perhaps the fact that no one cared about either fight left promoters hesitant to pull the trigger.
There is always that potential career change…
