Savannah Guthrie asks for prayer as her mother remains missing: ‘We need you’

Savannah Guthrie, co-host of NBC’s “Today,” thanked her followers Monday for offering prayers for her mother, Nancy, who authorities say may have been kidnapped from her home in Arizona.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen Saturday evening at her residence near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue, north of Tucson, around 9:30 p.m. after family members dropped her off, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

In an Instagram post Monday evening, Savannah Guthrie said she believes in prayer and God.

“We believe in prayer. We believe in voices rising in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in kindness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him,” she wrote with a photo that read: “Please pray.”

“Thank you for joining your prayers with ours for our beloved mother, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Lift your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them at this very moment,” the message continued.

Savannah Guthrie added, “We need you.”

The reporter also cited a Bible verse as she appeared to try to remain optimistic about her mother’s demise.

“‘He will keep in perfect peace those whose hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.’ A verse from Isaiah forever and for all of us,” she wrote.

“Take her home,” Savannah Guthrie concluded.

Earlier Monday, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told reporters that investigators had discovered a crime scene at Nancy Guthrie’s house and that she didn’t leave on her own.

“We believe now, after processing this crime scene, that we actually have a crime scene where we actually have a crime,” Nanos said. “She didn’t leave on her own. We know that.”

While authorities initially launched a search and rescue mission for Nancy Guthrie, Nanos added that it was cut short, saying, “We don’t view this as a search mission as much as a crime scene.”

Nanos also revealed that the woman suffered from physical problems that limit her mobility, but was “of sound mind” and required medication that could be fatal if not taken within 24 hours, according to NBC News.

“She couldn’t get 50 meters out of that house,” Nanos told the outlet.

Evidence also suggests that Nancy Guthrie was injured during her kidnapping, but the extent of her injuries has not been revealed, according to NBC Nightly News.
