Democrat Abigail Spanberger won hands down the Virginia gubernatorial race, as expected. In something surprisingMikie Sherrill of New Jersey, another Democrat, also won comfortably. These two elections may have been the most important in assessing the state of national politics in 2025. But the defining figure in this year’s elections was Zohran Mamdani, the candidate for mayor of New York. He also cruised to victory.
