Retired Providence, Rhode Island, judge Frank Caprio, celebrated the whole world for his moments in the compassionate audience room, published a sincere farewell to fans in his final video before passing.

Why it matters

Caprio died Wednesday at the age of 88, following a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Known for his empathy towards the defendants and the style of the audience hall Plainspoken, the judge, who chaired business in his successful television program Taken in Providencehad billions of views on social networks.

What to know

Before his death, judge Frank Caprio shared a video message from his hospital bed, asking the public to pray for him.

“Last year, I asked you to pray for me and it is very obvious that you did it because I went through a very difficult period. Unfortunately, I had a setback and I am back to the hospital now and I come back to you to ask you to remember me in your prayers,” said Caprio, his breaking voice.

“And so I ask you again, if it is not too much, that you remember me in your prayers. I am a big believer in the power of prayers. I think that the all-powerful above looks at us. So remember me please.”

The video, in which Caprio appeared with tears in the eyes, was published less than 24 hours before his death. His legend said: “As I continue this difficult battle, your prayers will lift my mind.”

The position has since collected more than 3 million views on Tiktok and 2.4 million on Instagram.

Caprio revealed for the first time his diagnosis in December 2023, announcing that he had received the news on “one of the happiest days of the year for [him]”- His birthday.

Planning in the judiciary of Rhode Island since 1985, Caprio has been a judge of the municipal court of Providence and acquired national recognition through the television program Taken in Providencewho obtained an appointment to the Diurnal Emmy in 2021. He would receive two others, in 2022 and 2023.

His style of factory compassion in the courtroom produced viral moments – inviting children to sit with him behind the bench to reveal a “mini -judge” marrow of himself – and earned him the nickname “the most beautiful judge in the world”.

In an appearance in 2024 on CBS MorningsCaprio explained that his empathy came from his own poverty education, a few pies of the courts of the courthouse which now bears his name.

“I’m just a judge from the small town’s municipal court, just trying to do good. This is how I am, who tries to take into consideration the circumstances surrounding me in front of me. And remember what my father told me, when someone appears in front of you, put yourself in their place, imagine that it is you before them. How do you want to be treated?” He said.

He also talked frankly about his illness: “It is not a pleasant experience to go to bed at night, say your prayers. And suddenly, you have an additional thing you have to ask. And that is to say, help the treatment to succeed in pancreatic cancer. And I think we are on the way.”

Judge Caprio is survived by his wife for almost 60 years, Joyce, as well as their five children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
