What is purple, white and hard everywhere? Some rare crabs, according to the department of national parks of Thailand, fauna and plant conservation. The department recently published photos of purplish and foreign crustaceans on their Facebook page.

According to the position translated on social networks, Park Rangers parked at the Panoen Thung control point in Kaeng Krachan National Park photographed the rare “Princess” or “Sirindhorn” crabs just before the area closed at the end of the tourist season. The shell of the crabs – or the shell on the back – can have about an inch long when they are completely cultivated.

“Discovery is considered a precious gift of nature,” said the post. “The appearance of princess crab is not only a rare observation of an elusive species, but also an important indicator of the health of the ecosystem.”

The crabs would be named in honor of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand, but more commonly called Panda Crabs. Panda crabs (LEPIDOTHELPHUSA COGNETTI) are semi-terrestrial crabs named for their (generally) black and white pata patterns. According to the Bangkok PostThe Panda crab was discovered in the Ngao Cascade National Park in 1986, although other sources indicate that the crustacean was discovered earlier.

Although there is not too much data on panda crabs, even less the purple variety, one thing is certain: the images are fantastic. Earlier this month, Kaeng Krachan National Park also celebrated the search for a more traditional black and white version.

“Kaeng Krachan National Park, a world heritage site with invaluable biodiversity, houses protected wild species. The presence of these animals demonstrates that the forest area still maintains excellent environmental quality, ”continues the most recent department of national parks, fauna and plant conservation post. In addition to the crabs, the park also hosts an impressive diversity of animals, leopards and bears with Broadbill birds and the snakes of King Cobra.

“The appearance of royal crab recalls the value of our World Heritage Forest, which we must all help to preserve,” concludes the post.
