Gavin Newsom Surges in 2028 Presidential Primary Poll

Support for the Governor of California Gavin Newsom as a possible Democratic presidential candidate in 2028 has overcome in the past four months, according to a new poll.
Nowsweek I tried to contact Newsom by email for comments after normal opening hours.
Why it matters
The survey indicates support for the more aggressive position that Newsom took care of President Donald Trump, in particular on a plan of the Republicans in Texas to restart the seats of the seats of the Congress of their State in the hope of winning more seats in the mid-term elections next year.
The battle to become the candidate in the presidential elections of 2028 will probably establish the new leadership for the Democratic Party while it fights against the favorability of net at a recent survey showed being a three -year hollow. Newsom has not officially announced his candidacy.
What to know
The new survey, led by Echelon Insights, has a news in second place among potential democratic candidates with support of 13%, behind former vice-president Kamala Harris with 26%. The survey was carried out from August 14 to August 18 with a margin of error of 3.6% among 1,057 registered voters.
A survey published by Echelon Insights in April had only Newsom only in sixth place with 4%, behind the former transport secretary Pete Buttigieg and the representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York, both on 7%. Harris was again in first place with 28%.
In the new survey, Buttigieg was in third place with 11% and Ocasio-Cortez in fourth place with 6%.
The Governor of California has struck Trump in recent weeks, especially in the War of Words on Rediscovering. Meanwhile, his press office has transformed his flow on social networks into a flow of messages from all caps, parodies of pop culture and the same content published by Ai, aiming to make fun of Trump in style while contravening republican initiatives.

Meena Bose, the executive dean of the Peter S. Kalikow School of Government, public policy and international affairs of Hofstra University, said Nowsweek Last month, polls so far from a primary were “informative but not necessarily instructive”, largely indicating the recognition of the name or reflecting an interest declared to operate in 2028.
Newsom and Buttigieg both have public visibility, but a more solid idea of which takes place – and which leads – will develop after the community and the change after the debates and the first competitions, said Bose, adding that the Ocasio -Cortez is a viable candidate will be seen after the community.
There is also a big question as to whether Harris will be held after his defeat against Trump last year. In her first interview since she left her duties on January 20, she told Stephen Colbert that she would not present herself to the post of Governor of California in 2026, but denied that it was so that she could present herself for a “different office” – the involvement being another race for the presidency.
Newsom has already been on the ascent since February at the beginning of 2028 following fatal fires in the County of Los Angeles.
The Polymarket online Paris website said this week that its chances of beating Ocasio-Cortez to win the Democratic presidential appointment in 2028 increases. The site has shown Newsom at 21% and at the head of Ocasio Cortez of 7 percentage points in a hypothetical match which also includes other high -level democrats. It is 3 percentage points more than earlier this month, when Newsom had 4 percentage points in advance on Ocasio-Cortez. Polymarket showed Harris on only 5%.
Ocasio-Cortez did not officially announce his candidacy for the 2028 race.
What people say
The Mike Madrid strategist, political consultant and co-founder of Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump political action committee, previously said Nowsweek About Newsom: “People thought his career was over. Now he’s in the first three of each survey.”
“Democrats are looking for a fighter. It is no longer a question of ideology. You can be a centrist or progressive – what matters is that you are holding back and that you are ridicuing yourself. The more the new aggressive becomes, the more support it builds.”
Trump told journalists in June: “He did a terrible job. I like Gavin Newsom. He is a nice guy but he is largely incompetent, everyone knows.”
What happens next
As a rule, most candidates are only starting to announce presidential races only after the mid-term elections.
