Good Luck With That – New Poll Shows New Yorkers Think Mamdani Might Not Be So Bad After All – RedState

The rest of the country couldn’t have been too surprised when New Yorkers elected the first socialist mayor of the nation’s largest city in November. The fact that New York is a deep blue city is well known, but when Zohran Mamdani became a mayoral candidate in the primary and announced that he was a democratic socialist, for most it was a foregone conclusion that he would win not only the primary, but also the general election and become the next mayor of the Big Apple. Now that New Yorkers have had a little time to get used to it, what do they think of the new mayor?
Mamdani’s programs
never take off from the ground. There will be no free rides or free bus tickets. He will learn very quickly how cities really work.
What will happen, however, is that the New York Police Department will be completely neutralized and criminals will run the city.

A new survey from the University of Siena shows that residents are becoming more open to the idea of socialism. The poll was conducted Dec. 8-12 among 801 registered voters in New York state. The poll shows Mamdani has a 46 percent approval rating statewide. That’s an increase from 40 percent in November. By a margin of 49 to 32 percent, they think Mamdani will be good for New York. This also represents an increase from the 45 to 39 percent margin recorded in November.

Among those who will live under Mamdani’s policies, the number is also increasing. The survey showed that 66 percent of New Yorkers think Mamdani’s victory is positive, and 25 percent think it is not so good. This is also an increase from November, when 57 percent thought Mamdani’s victory was good, and 26 percent considered it bad. Interestingly, those who live outside the city had a negative view of him, but those numbers are now roughly equal. There were no surprises when you broke down the results by party. Two-thirds of Democrats think Mayor Mamdani will be a good candidate, compared to two-thirds of Republicans who think he will be a bad one.
Mamdani’s campaign website reads like a left-wing Christmas wish list, promising free bus rides, free day care, city-run grocery stores and reduced rent. How does he plan to finance this free extravagance? By raising taxes on New Yorkers who earn more than $1 million a year. The poll showed that 65 percent of New Yorkers would support free child care, and 27 percent did not. Of those surveyed, 50 percent said they were in favor of free bus rides, and 41 percent were not.
Mamdani finally responded to the lack of any plan to pay for free buses: “The most important fact is that we finance it, the question is not how we do it, but that we do it. »

Voters were also asked about the meeting, described as “friendly,” between Mamdani and President Trump. The president said he believed Mamdani had the opportunity to “really do something great for New York.” However, a majority of voters, by a margin of 47 to 29 percent, do not believe Mamdani and Trump will work together for the people of New York. But those numbers are also up from November, when the margin was 67 to 14 percent.

Zohran Mamdani is like all other socialists in the sense that he learned how socialism works from books. He did not allow everyone who does not want to be taxed within an inch of their lives and who has the desire and means to leave the city to do so. Who will be left to generate the revenue needed for all the free content? The very ones who start thinking, “How bad could this be?” Who is it.
Siena investigator Steven Greenberg perhaps said it best: “Enjoy your honeymoon, Mayor-elect Mamdani.” But he left out “Good luck, New Yorkers, with your hardcore lesson in socialism. You’ll need it.”
