Google Fiber just went live in this US city with 8 Gig speeds

Google Fiber isn’t expanding as quickly as most of us would prefer, but it’s still coming to new cities and towns at a steady pace. Now, one more major city in the United States now has up to 8 Gigabit internet through Google Fiber: Las Vegas, Nevada.
Google Fiber started construction in the west side of Las Vegas in January 2025, followed by additional work across Clark County. The city’s first connections have now been activated, with more neighborhoods expected to have service in “the coming months.” Google Fiber in Las Vegas is offering plans ranging from 1 Gig to 8 Gig, the latter of which can handle 8,000 Mbps download and upload.
Google didn’t mention which exact neighborhoods now have Fiber service (or will have service in the near future), but you can check your address on the Google Fiber website. With all service areas, the internet plans have no data caps and no annual contracts.
The rollout is seemingly focused on the City of Las Vegas, which does not include the most famous areas of Las Vegas. Many neighborhoods, businesses, and tourist attractions are actually located in the unincorporated towns of Paradise and Winchester, sometimes still with a “Las Vegas, NV” address. Those unincorporated regions were created so the casinos and other local businesses could avoid paying city taxes, and maintain more control over construction and zoning—a bit like the special governing district that exists around Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida.
Google mentioned discussions with both the City of Las Vegas Council and the Clark County Commission, and fiber internet deployment in “additional parts of Clark County.” That might means some residents outside city limits should have access to Fiber, but Google didn’t say exactly which areas.
Google Fiber is about to get a huge speed boost, for free
3 Gig internet is now the base package.
The company also said, “Connecting our first household is a major milestone in our journey to bring more choice and better connectivity to the Silver State. For us, this isn’t just about laying fiber; it’s about expanding new possibilities for Las Vegas residents to work, learn, and play at home.”
Google Fiber is now available across 19 states, though the rollout is limited to a few cities in each state. Laying down fiber internet, with all of the required permits and infrastructure construction, is unfortunately a slow process.
