Sen. Bill Cassidy gave a confusing answer about his role in nominating Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.

During an appearance Sunday on Face the nationmoderator Margaret Brennan asked whether Cassidy — a doctor whose support for vaccines put him at odds with Kennedy — regretted his February confirmation vote.

Brennan observed that Cassidy decided to vote for Kennedy after receiving assurances that a key CDC advisory committee on vaccines would be maintained “without changes”; Kennedy still fired all his members and appointed new ones, including vaccine skeptics, in their place.

In lieu of an answer, Cassidy offered the following gem: “You live your life forward. Once again you do,” he said, then quoting Matthew 6:34. “Let the troubles of the day be enough for the day.” »

The senator continued: “He and I publicly disagree on some points, but I completely agree with him on others, and that is how I will answer your question. »

“That sounds, uh, like yes,” Brennan noted.

Online, social media users mocked Cassidy’s cryptic comments. “Translation: Yes, but I’ll pretend it’s a philosophical riddle,” one wrote. “Cassidy looks like a fortune cookie,” another posted.

Before giving his non-answer, Cassidy noted that “every journalist asks me that.” You’d think he’d have a better answer by now.
