GTA 6 desperately needs this one feature to give PC players a boost — and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but it should take a gamer-friendly page from Ubisoft’s book

The biggest event in gaming is getting closer, with Rockstar Games Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to launch on November 19, 2026 after several delays. To the knowledge of consumers, GTA6 will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, so it looks like PC gamers will have to wait longer.
Unless Rockstar has a surprise in its next scheduled announcement, consoles will be the only place to play the highly anticipated title from day one, and that’s not much of a surprise, considering how big of a project this is developing. GTA6 for a single platform due to its massive size.

GTA 6 absolutely needs a cross-save feature
Game developers and publishers such as Ubisoft, Larian Studios, and CD Projekt Red have all implemented cross-progression functionality in games, including those like Shadows of Assassin’s Creed, Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077And The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Cross-progression is essential to allowing players to pick up exactly where they left off, both on PC and console. For example, if I have Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam and PS5, I can grab it on a Steam Deck or Lenovo Legion Go handheld on the go, then dive back into my save on my TV when I get home.
This is incredibly convenient for gamers playing timed exclusive titles, as users can confidently progress through one platform and then dive into a more complete or graphically advanced version (usually a PC port) without having to start again when it arrives.
This is exactly why I want it for Rockstar GTA6. I’d hate to buy the game on my PS5, sink hundreds of hours into the main story, and maybe even create a personal character online (if online play is available on day one), only to be left out of all of that when the game finally comes to PC.
Ubisoft and other game developers have been doing this for years, and if Rockstar followed in the same footsteps, it would only encourage PC and console gamers to buy two copies of GTA6.
I don’t understand why more game developers haven’t included this for cross-platform games, because I can’t see a single way this could harm the developer or the consumer.
While I imagine there are probably some complications due to the differences in file formats for saves between PC and console, I would say that avoiding the cross-save feature can really hinder sales. Some PC owners are already hesitant to buy a console-exclusive game at launch if they think it will eventually come to PC and have to start the progression all over again.
We can only hope that Rocktar takes notes…
