Guardians’ David Fry has broken nose, facial fractures from HBP
CLEVELAND – The Guardians appointed the striker David Fry suffered a broken nose and facial fractures after being struck in the face by a Tarik Skubal field during the sixth round of Cleveland’s 5-2 victory against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday, a victory that complicated the central race of the American League.
“He’s going well. He’s in a good mood,” said director Stephen Vogt by phone on Wednesday morning. “He’s standing. He’s alert.”
Vogt visited Fry in the hospital. The Guardians plan a more detailed update later.
Fry has square to try to rub a quick ball from 99 mph from skubal, and the terrain hit him in the nose and mouth. While Fry collapsed in the shot box and immediately grabbed his bloody face, a visibly shaken skubal threw his glove and his cap while Vogt and the coaches rushed on the ground.
Fry is lying in dirt for several minutes before being slowly helped to get up. He gave a boost as he sat down and was hunted in a cart.
The Guardians said that Fry was transported from the Lutheran Medical Center to the main Cleveland Clinic campus for additional tests and observations.
“It was directly on the face,” said Vogt, describing the impact on Fry that shook everyone in a progressive field. “We all think of David and his family right now. Obviously, we are happy that he is fine, but obviously, it’s a really scary moment.”
Skubal, the prevailing winner of the Al Cy Young Prize, punctuated the inner field while Fry was helped. After the match, Skubal, who granted two strokes during the first five heats, said that seeing Fry in distress was difficult.
“Really difficult,” said the left -hander. “I have already contacted him. I am sure that his phone explodes. I just want to make sure he is going well. Obviously, it seemed to be out of the field, and I hope it will remain like this.
“I sometimes know with these things that can change. So I hope it is well. I can’t wait to hope at one point tonight or [Wednesday] In the morning, to receive an SMS from him and make sure he is very good because there are things that are bigger than the game, and the health of him is more important than a baseball match. “”
This is how the Guardians left the Steven Kwan field player after looking at Fry, an All-Star in 2024 who underwent surgery of the Coude Speison and joined the team until the end of May.
“Certainly really frightening,” said Kwan. “So that David even tries something like that [bunt]It’s just who he is. A type of altruistic guy, and especially in a position like that is a hard guy. Fortunately, he had humor when he came, but you don’t want to see a guy who was with you almost all year round [get hurt].
“Obviously, in terms of energy, just who he is as a teammate, he signified so much for us as a team. It is really frightening, but fortunately, he had humor that came out of the field, so I hope we get good news.”
After the incident, Skubal launched wild land at George Valera, who replaced Fry, allowing Cleveland to score. Skubal also had an error when he inexplicably tried to make a blind launch first between his legs and was called for a bullet in the sixth round while the Guardians gathered for three points to take a 3-2 advance without hitting a ball out of the inner field.
