Guy Fieri was rushed into surgery after missing a set of steps and tearing his quad in two.
During an interview with Fox News Digital, the Food Network star explained that he is currently in a wheelchair and uses crutches.
“[I] He ran down a set of steps, one foot moving forward and the other getting stuck on the threshold. So, you know, it extended me. I looked like I was probably doing the splits, but when my right leg compressed the vanishing point and the doctor said he’d never seen – you know, in 20 years – he hadn’t seen a tear in the biggest, thickest part of your quad in two. Yeah, it sucked,” Fieri said.

He said he had emergency surgery after the fall to make sure his muscles didn’t “roll back.”

“Normally you tear that muscle at your tendon or the tendon tears the bone, but it was right in the center of the whole quadriceps muscle and it exploded,” Fieri said.

The chef explained that he was filming his new show, “Flavor Town Food Fight,” when the fall and surgery took place.
“So, right in the middle of filming, we have everyone in town and all the bosses there and 125 people on set — and everyone is ready to go — and I’m in surgery. So we’ve figured out how to evolve and have creative filming techniques. But it’s been a rush, and now I’m here at the ranch, where it’s still hiking and the outdoors, and you know, it’s beautiful,” Fieri said, explaining that his injury has been a “shock absorber.”

“Normally you tear that muscle at your tendon or the tendon tears the bone, but it was right in the center of the whole quadriceps muscle and it exploded.”
Fieri predicts that his injury, which will keep him off his feet for eight weeks, will absolutely affect this year’s Thanksgiving meal.

“Oh, it’s going to affect him because I’m on crutches and in a wheelchair. I mean, I have to stay away from that and all that. I can’t walk on it for eight weeks. So that was funny. My son, Ryder, texted me from school and he said, ‘Well, I guess all the training you gave me and all the cooking I did while I was in school, this would be my time to shine.’ And I said, ‘I’m so glad you’re asking me about this rather than telling me you have to do it,'” Fieri said.

The professional chef plans to pass the torch to his two sons, Hunter and Ryder, and his nephew Jules, for this holiday.
“So I have my three boys, Hunter, Ryder and Jules, and they all know how to cook. And now I’ll be the one to get out of the wheelchair and tell them what to do. And we cook for about 40 people here. So it’s going to be, it’s got to be an adventure,” Fieri said.

Fieri will have a long recovery. After eight weeks without weight on his leg, he will have to put on a cast and then rehabilitate his quad.

“Eight weeks without weights, crutches and a cast, then rehab, which for me, I want to get it over with as quickly as possible. He says, ‘You know, as much as you want, go back to being Guy, you’re really going to have to go through that.’ [it].'”
“I didn’t break anything. I mean, I broke everything when I was a kid. I broke my leg, I broke my knee, I broke my wrist, I broke my sternum, my ribs, my tailbone. I mean, you know, you name it, I broke it. But I’m done doing that. You know, I’ve been done with that type of behavior for a long time,” Fieri said.
