How an immigration raid on a Chicago apartment block unfolded

Residents of a Chicago apartment building that was targeted in a raid on suspected illegal immigrants described seeing armed officers in the hallways and a helicopter landing on the building’s roof. A US-born resident told BBC Verify that his hands were tied by police officers before being released.

The Department of Homeland Security, which released dramatic footage of the raid, said 37 “illegal aliens” had been arrested, including suspected gang members.

BBC Verify’s Nick Beake spoke to people living in the area and tried to piece together how the operation unfolded.
