I’m not ashamed to love the iPhone Air

One of my colleagues abroad has obtained its two new iPhone models today – an iPhone 17 pro and an iPhone Blue iPhone Air – and was surprised that it seemed serious to air.
My iPhone 17 Pro Max arrived today, and I was surprised to feel a pinch of … jealousy? On the slim phone? I am not ashamed to say that I am more than curious; In a way, I regret buying Apple’s big powerful pro on the new elegant heat which is the iPhone Air.
Does wanting iPhone air seems shameful? After years complaining about the gaps in smartphones, the new Apple iPhone takes all these complaints and throws them immediately on my face. He dares me his slender form.
Do you want more battery life on a phone, and maybe a faster load? Damage. And the cameras that let me leave my Fuji Xt-5 and my big goals at home? No, just a camera in the iPhone air, and it’s not the best of Apple.
Frankly, he is lucky that Apple even included magsafe magnets in the iPhone air, because these were excluded from the iPhone 16th of the bar of the right deal, and I expected that Apple could resume more features to shave the weight and reduce costs.
Thin phones and iPhone air feel very different when you hold them
The iPhone look lacks everything I would tell you I want in a new phone – except for the only thing I want the most. I want a new phone to feel new. I want an entirely new experience, not just a step compared to the model of last year. The most interesting thing that a new phone can be really new – a new experience, and that’s where thin phones like the iPhone Air succeed.
I have not spent time yet with the iPhone Air, but I have reviewed the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. The Galaxy Edge is not as thin as iPhone air – the difference is less than a MM – but it is a little lighter than the iPhone, so the effect is similar.
The first time I kept the Galaxy S25 Edge was new. It was different. It did not look like my current smartphone or any smartphone that I had previously owned. This reminded me of the thinnest stupid phones that appeared at the end of the silent era.
It was impossible, as something that should not exist. It was not the slimming that struck me; It was how light was the edge compared to all the other phones. The Galaxy S25 edge is almost a lighter full ounce than the Galaxy S25 Plus. It is almost 2 ½ ounce lighter than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The difference is striking.
Instead of new cameras, an entirely new experience
Each year, telephone manufacturers add more and more features to phones or improve existing specifications to push technology further. Each upgrade resembles a minor evolution, not revolutionary. We rarely get a new phone that is really different. It is perhaps because of the devotion of the world of the phone with constant steps forward, and not despite this.
If you are a phone geek like me, or if you just want the best phone, you have been trained to search for certain specifications. More screen. More cameras with more megapixels. More battery life. Faster performance than anyone who needs a smartphone.
I am here to say that it is enough. The phones are quite fast. The cameras are quite good. It is time for something different, and if it means taking a few steps back, I’m all for that. The iPhone Air and the Galaxy S25 EDGE are fun and fresh phones to transport. If you need better photos, wear a camera. If you need more battery life, transport a battery or load more often.
We were trained to think that these are the bad answers, but in fact, it is more logical to wear a dedicated camera if you really care about superb photos. It is logical to complete your phone throughout the day if necessary, or to transport a small battery, as it offers much more flexibility than just hope that your phone does not lack gas before the end of the day.
The Galaxy S25 Edge was not the best phone I tested this year, but it made me smile every time I used it because it was so unique. I was never worrying painful pink fingers after an hour of fighting the New York Times crossword. I slipped it into pockets that are too tight to transport my iPhone Pro Max and I forgot that it was there.
Sustainability is a huge advantage for iPhone air
This brings me to the singular benefit of the iPhone Air: it is the most durable iPhone of all time. This is an incredible statement, and our editor -in -chief launches Ulanoff put it to the test trying to fold the iPhone iPhone air from Apple Greg Joswiak’s executive. He failed.
Sustainability is my favorite phone function, since Samsung produced its water resistant galaxy S5 in 2014. Before that, a reason that you replace your phone is that you wet it. Today, a wet phone is not a problem unless you first break the glass.
If Apple had only done the most durable iPhone of all time and it was not so thin, I would be impressed. The fact that the iPhone Air is the most resilient model of Apple is a huge sale argument, and you will thank me in four years when you always wear the same phone as today.
If you are tired of the same old phone, consider a slim phone like the edge of the iPhone Air or Galaxy S25. Do not be ashamed to give up the major features that everyone says is so important. What is important is to take advantage of the phone you wear, and you might like to wear the thinnest and lightest phone around much more than wearing a controlled brick.
