Spanberger Will Not Honor ICE Detainer for Illegal Alien Accused of Murder

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D) suggests she won’t support Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents taking custody of an illegal alien accused of killing 41-year-old Stephanie Minter in Fairfax County unless those agents obtain a judicial warrant signed by a criminal court judge.
As Breitbart News reported, Abdul Jalloh, a 32-year-old illegal alien from Sierra Leone, was arrested by the Fairfax County Police Department and charged with stabbing Stephanie Minter, a mother, to death at a Fredericksburg, Virginia, bus stop in a random attack.
Jalloh had already made more than 30 arrests before Minter’s killing, but Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano repeatedly dropped the charges against him.
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials have asked Spanberger to ensure that Jalloh will not be released from Fairfax County custody at any time by honoring an immigration detainer the agency filed against the illegal alien.
In response, Spanberger’s office suggested to WJLA’s Nick Minock that the governor would continue to oppose ICE detainers filed against illegal aliens, even in Jalloh’s case.
“DHS should seek a signed judicial warrant to ensure that this violent criminal is deported,” a spokesperson for Spanberger’s office told Minock.
As Breitbart News explained, states and sanctuary cities often claim they will only work with ICE if agents obtain a court warrant against an illegal alien. Former immigration judge Andrew Arthur emphasized that such warrants are not required by law and, in fact, do not exist.
Jalloh first crossed the southern border in 2012. His previous arrests include charges of rape, assault, intentional wounding, shooting a weapon, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, identity theft, drug possession, theft and pickpocketing.
