Iran threatens OpenAI’s Stargate data center in Abu Dhabi

OpenAI’s $500 billion Stargate project includes investments from Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco and SoftBank. It’s unclear how complete the Abu Dhabi data center is actually complete, as an October 2025 update showed the debut of the facility which will contain 16 gigawatts of computing power. The update says construction is “well advanced” and will reach its goal of deploying 200 megawatts in 2026. OpenAI did not immediately respond to the request. The edgerequest for comment.
In addition to what appears to be satellite imagery of the UAE’s OpenAI data center from Google Maps, the IRGC video also shows a photo of executives supporting the project, which falsely identifies Cisco Chief Product Officer Jeetu Patel as Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
Over the weekend, President Donald Trump threatened Iran on Truth Social, saying Tuesday would be “power plant day and bridge day” if the country did not open the Strait of Hormuz. Trump also told ABC News on Sunday that the United States plans to “blow up the entire country” if Iran does not reach an agreement with the United States. Iran’s Foreign Ministry responded to Trump’s threats on Monday, saying it was “determined to defend our national security and sovereignty with all our strength.”
