Is ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ actually a couples show?

Justin Morello believed that it was important to spend his rare television time watching programs acclaimed by criticism with a certain prestige.
Then, his wife shot the first season of “The Summer I Third Jotly” a few years ago, and the 31 -year -old was immediately hung on the adaptation of the Romance Book for adolescents who became viral Amazon Prime Show.
“I like to watch shows and films with my wife, and she led me to watch all these programs that were simply pleasant to watch,” said Justin, who lives in the region of Richmond, in Virginia, with his wife and four children. “This show is small issues and just fun, and we are doing somehow on this subject as it happens. It is, as, really pleasant.”
“Men who are aware of watching a” girly program “lack entertainment,” he added later. “Put this label on it, you lack entertainment.”
The Morellos are only one of the dozens of couples who have turned to social networks to share their dedication to the candy -colored melodrama that ends its third and last season. While Justin has been a fan since 2022, the partners of Tiktok and Instagram who have sworn their indifference are exposed for their inability to stay far from Belly Conklin and Fisher Brothers.
“My husband who looks at the” silly little program “that he is not interested,” wrote a user of Tiktok on a video featuring his spouse standing silently while he was captivated by a scene featuring Conrad shouting on Belly on the beach.
Based on the novels for young adults from Jenny Han, “The Summer I Thot’s Pretty” follows Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Lola Tung), which spends every summer in the cousins beach in the fictitious seaside town with the Fisher family. Throughout the series, she navigates her feelings for the brooding of Conrad (Christopher Briney), who has trouble treating her feelings following the death of her mother, and her younger brother, the easiest to live Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), that the Tiktors would most likely describe as a “Boyfriend Golden Retriever” (akake affection and play).
Allowed in nostalgia and associated with a soundtrack filled with Taylor Swift, the series on first love, sorrow, sorrow and loyalty has aroused a cult of longtime han fans and new viewers, sometimes initially reluctant. With only three episodes to play in the series, he also stimulated an intense debate online while the fans dissect each episode, the bridal showers on the theme of host programs, meet in bars for surveillance celebrations and go to the ends of the earth for “Team Conrad” or “Team Jeremiah”.
“It is my husband, not to look at my triangle shows in love with teenagers to cringe,” wrote another Tiktok user on a video, showing her captivated husband in a dramatic scene while holding their newborn.
For Noah Brockway, a 29 year old Pennsylvania man who works in the sales of medical devices, the interest in “The Summer I Third Pretty” did not start before the end of 2024, after his wife then pregnant, Gabriella, heard of a colleague.
“My wife somehow controls the remote control, and I’m just going to somehow everything she puts,” said Noah. “I watched a lot of shows now that it would probably not be my first choice, but I was able to love them.”
While the couple had torn the first two seasons, sometimes between the tasks or the work, Noah admits that he is “inside too” – sometimes bankrupt his head to pay attention and catch up what was going on while they were doing something else. When the new season was created in July, he was delighted to see how the story would take place and if Belly finds himself with his favorite character, the medical student Conrad.
“We are 100% Conrad team. We hope that if we have a son, he’s like Conrad,” said Gabriella.
In recent weeks, Noah and Gabriella have settled in a new Routine on Wednesday to follow the releases of the episode. Gabriella, who is at home with their newborn daughter, looks at him in the morning while Noah begins to work. Sometimes Noah can go out and take a look at the corner of the street to see what’s going on, but the pair always looks at it later in the evening.
“At 9:15 am, we have a bagel in hand, from bacon in hand, coffee, and we start it,” said Gabriella, adding that during the second watch in the evening with Noah, she knows when to record her reactions at great times. These reactions have collected thousands of views on Tiktok.
Like the Morellos, the Brockways went to Tiktok to document their joint interest in the show – and have strong feelings about the show, while it goes to an unexplored territory and diverges from the trilogy. The eight episode ended with the belly spontaneously buying a ticket for Paris after she and the dramatic end of Jeremiah on their wedding day, after her feelings for Conrad – and her feelings of return – are revealed.
A trailer published last week for the last three episodes of the show showed the belly in Paris and dancing with new characters while “everything that could happen” by Ellie Goulding plays in the background. In the final scene, Belly sees that Conrad sent him a letter, and Briney can be heard: “Dear belly”.
“If she found herself with Jérémie, we would be checked,” said Laney Morello, 30, about her and Justin’s feelings around the end of the series. “Justin always wants her to go to Paris and meet someone there.”
But although the two couples are firm in their “Team Conrad” beliefs, have strong feelings about other characters and appreciate the family aspect of the series, it is the fact that the show is an activity they can share that is worth it.
“We may have to start the nap early,” joked Justin when he asked him how they planned to watch the new episode on Wednesday. “Maybe we will wake up early. We will certainly try to do it, as at noon.”
Laney added: “We don’t want to get spoilers!”
