The California Supreme Court has disbarred John Eastman, a lawyer linked to President Donald Trump’s efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election.

“The California Supreme Court today disbarred attorney John Charles Eastman,” the State Bar of California said in a statement.

“This after the State Bar Court Review Department in July 2025 affirmed the findings of the March 2024 State Bar Court Hearing Department recommendation, which found Eastman guilty of 10 of 11 charges of egregious and deceptive conduct and recommended his disbarment,” the release added.

Eastman, a close adviser to the president before the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol, wrote a memo regarding a plan by then-Vice President Mike Pence to reject electoral votes for Joe Biden while he was presiding over the Jan. 6 joint session of Congress in an effort to keep Trump in power, according to the Associated Press.

George Cardona, senior counsel for the State Bar, said: “After lengthy proceedings before the State Bar Court Hearing and Review Departments, both of which found Mr. Eastman guilty of serious ethics violations, the Court imposed the discipline warranted by the clear and convincing evidence that he advanced false claims about the 2020 presidential election to mislead the courts, public officials, and the American public.

“The Court’s order emphasizes that Mr. Eastman’s misconduct was inconsistent with the standards of integrity required of any California lawyer,” Cardona added in a statement released by the State Bar of California.

A statement provided to Fox News Digital by Eastman’s attorney, Randall Miller, announced plans to pursue review by the U.S. Supreme Court.

“The California Supreme Court has allowed to stand a state bar court recommendation that we believe departs from long-standing U.S. Supreme Court precedent protecting First Amendment rights, particularly in the context of attorney discipline,” the statement said.

“We disagree with this result and believe it raises critical constitutional concerns about the limits of state regulation of attorney speech. We will seek review from the United States Supreme Court to reject this threat to the rule of law and our nation’s adversarial justice system,” the statement added.
