I’ve looked through hundreds of gaming laptops today — this highly-rated model with an RTX 5070 for £1,199 is the obvious pick

As someone who regularly writes about gaming laptops, it’s usually US retailers that get the lion’s share of the big price drops. But today I found one excellent a deal for our British readers – a deal so good the Americans will be jealous, in fact.

This is the Acer Nitro V16 for £1,199 (was £1,299) at Very, which in my estimation seems to be a record price for this user-friendly RTX 5070 gaming laptop.

The Acer Nitro V16 is what I’d call a lower mid-range laptop, but it’s the highest spec you can get right now, with an AMD Ryzen 7 chipset, 1TB SSD, and 16GB of RAM accompanying the RTX 5070. For the price, these are very impressive specs indeed, although it would have been nice to have a little extra RAM.

Unfortunately, like all laptops today, you won’t find 32GB of RAM on a machine of this level due to the ongoing RAM shortage. What you’ll get, however, is a gaming laptop that’s still plenty fast and capable of running all the latest titles at respectable graphics settings. The RTX 5070 will do a lot of work here, that’s for sure.

We haven’t personally reviewed this machine at TechRadar, but our sister site GamesRadar published a detailed review with a full overview of the machine a few days ago.

They tested the cheaper RTX 5060 variant, but the laptop’s chassis is the same, so expect the same low-profile black design and IPS display. You should get a decent performance boost here though with the RTX 5070 under the hood.

Overall, the Acer Nitro V 16 is a decent buy for the price, but you miss out on some premium touches like an OLED display or a metal chassis. It’s a laptop that was built with a price tag in mind, but it’s quite thin and the performance is decent for a machine at this level.
