Jimmy Kimmel’s return draws record ratings despite limited showing

Jimmy Kimmel’s return to the late evening television after an almost a week’s suspension brought his broader his show in a decade, Disney said.
Some 6.26 million people were listening to Jimmy Kimmel Live! Tuesday – about triple its medium notes – despite about a quarter of the ABC stations in the United States that does not broadcast it.
Additional 26 million looked at Kimmel’s 28 -minute emotional monologue on social networks, Disney said.
The initial numbers, compiled by the Nielsen analysis company, will probably increase in the coming days as more data is collected. The figures do not include streaming spectacle.
In comparison, Jimmy Kimmel Live! Pulled an average of 1.42 million viewers throughout its 2024-2025 season.
Tuesday’s show was Kimmel’s first since he was withdrawn last week. ABC and his parent company Disney had declared that he had suspended the show because of the comments he made about the man accused of having shot the conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
In his monologue at the time, Kimmel said that US President Donald Trump and his allies were trying to “desperately characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as something other than one of them” and trying to “score political points”.
Kimmel also compared Trump’s reaction on the death of Kirk to “how a four -year -old child cries a goldfish”.
The decision to suspend his program occurred a few hours after Brendan Carr, president of the American dissemination regulator, the Federal Commission Commission (FCC), threatened to act against ABC and Disney for Kimmel’s remarks.
Controversy has triggered debates on a national scale on freedom of expression.
During Tuesday’s show, a Kimmel in tears said that “I never intended to shed light on the murder of a young man”. He also accused Mr. Carr of “Mob Tactics”.
The comic strip has also criticized Trump for calling for the ax of his colleagues in the late evening – who are all frequent criticisms of the president while they laughed at the biggest news of the day.
“Our chef famous that people lose their livelihoods because he cannot take a joke,” said Kimmel, adding that Trump openly waving people to lose their jobs were “non -American” and “dangerous”.
Kimmel’s return was praised by some celebrity supporters, including actor Ben Stiller, who praised the “brilliant monologue”. But it was not universally welcomed.
Trump criticized his reinstatement, writing on social networks: “I cannot believe that the false news ABC gave Jimmy Kimmel to Jimmy Kimmel.”
Turning Point USA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet, the former Kirk producer, said Kimmel should have apologized to suggest that the alleged killer was a supporter of Maga. “Not good enough,” he wrote on X.
