Judge allows the National Science Foundation to withhold hundreds of millions of research dollars

The National Science Foundation can continue to retain hundreds of millions of dollars of researchers in several states until the dispute aimed to restore it. Friday, a federal judge refused to grant a preliminary injunction in a legal action filed by sixteen states led by the Democrats. In April, the NSF announced a new set of priorities and began to chop hundreds of grants for research focused on things such as disinformation and diversity, equity and inclusion. An NSF lawyer said at the hearing that the agency had the power to finance the research it deems necessary.
