Judge dismisses Trump’s $15B lawsuit against the NY Times
On Friday, a federal judge rejected the defamation trial of President Trump $ 15 billion against the New York Times, describing the complaint “resolutely inappropriate and inadmissible”.
American district judge Steven Merryday in Florida judged that the 85 -page trial was unnecessarily long and full of “tedious and tedious” language unrelated to the case.
“As each lawyer knows (where knowledge is presumed), a complaint is not a public forum for vituperation and invective – not a protected platform for rage against an opponent,” the judge wrote in a four -page prescription. “A complaint is not a megaphone for public relations or a podium for a passionate prayer during a political gathering.”
In addition, the complaint “is undoubtedly and inexcusable in everything related to the requirements of rule 8” of the federal rules of civil procedure, which requires a short and simple declaration showing that the applicant is entitled to a reparation.
“Even in the most generous and indulgent reading of rule 8, the complaint is decidedly inappropriate and inadmissible,” wrote the judge, citing Trump’s allegations that he won the presidential election “in a historical manner” and alluded to “the interference of the persistent elections of the inherited media, led the New York Times.
The complaint, wrote Merryday, obliges the reader to “work through … repetitive and rented (towards President Trump) but superfluous allegations”. The judge specifically noted a case in which Trump boasted that his reality show “The Apprentice” represented “the cultural magnitude of the singular brilliance of President Trump”.
Merryday, a man named George HW Bush, gave Trump 28 days to deposit an amendment, which “must not exceed 40 pages, excluding only legend, signature and attachment”.
The trial of several billion dollars accused the New York Times, four of its journalists and book publisher Peperom House of Saper the reputation of Trump as a prosperous businessman.
“The Times has embarked on a method of decade of decade on (me), my family, business, America First Movement, Maga and our nation as a whole,” wrote Trump on his social media site during the announcement of the trial on Monday.
Friday, a Times spokesman welcomed the judge’s decision, “who recognized that the complaint was a political document rather than a serious legal deposit.”
In July, Trump brought a legal action of $ 10 billion against the Wall Street Journal after the newspaper published a story reporting on its links with the disgrace financier and the sexual offender Helle Jeffrey Epstein.
