Kamala Harris Floats ‘Honest’ Reality Check Of Trump Economy, Seemingly Forgetting Biden Admin’s Affordability Crisis

Former Vice President Kamala Harris attempted to criticize President Donald Trump’s economy Friday, while seemingly ignoring the affordability issues many Americans faced under her and former President Joe Biden’s leadership.
In a speech at the annual winter meeting of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in Los Angeles, Harris said Democrats need to “be honest” and recognize that the American dream has now “become more of a myth than a reality,” Fox News reported Saturday. She also claimed that Americans are currently grappling with an “affordability crisis” under Trump. “Clearly, we need to focus on the midterm elections,” Harris said during her speech. “But Democrats, we also need to have a clear vision of what happens after the midterm elections and then after Trump. We need to answer the question. We need to answer the question: ‘What’s next for our party and our democracy?’
“And in doing so, we must be honest: For many, the American dream has become more myth than reality,” she continued. “Whether it’s the cost of food, energy, health care, transportation or housing, America faces an affordability crisis, a crisis we’re witnessing fuels a system [of] fear, frustration and lack of trust in our systems.
US inflation has risen to save peaks under the Biden-Harris administration, reaching a peak by 9.1% in July 2022. Gas price in the USA too sautéed during part of Biden’s only presidential term.
Despite these weaknesses, Biden has touted his economic policies since leaving the White House, claims in May that his administration’s economy “was growing…the stock market was soaring…we were expanding our influence around the world.”

Trump praised the improving U.S. economy under his leadership at a rally Tuesday in Pennsylvania. Some recent polls, however, suggest that many voters are unhappy with Trump’s economic policies.
In September, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), a broad measure of prices for everyday goods, increased 0.3% and 3% over the previous 12 months, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported on October 24. Meanwhile, the index for all items other than food and energy jumped 0.2% in September and was up 3% for the year, according to the BLS.
The U.S. national fuel price average fell below $3 per gallon in early December 2025 for the first time in four years, the American Automobile Association reported Dec. 4. In May 2025, BLS data showed that U.S. food prices fell more in April 2025 than at any time since 2020, largely due to a drop in egg prices.
Additionally, a new AP-NORC survey released Friday finds that many American adults are still concerned about high prices, but less so than during the middle of Biden’s presidency.
