Republican candidate for senator Nate Morris withdrew from the race in Kentucky on Friday, shortly after President Donald Trump issued a statement saying he had asked Morris to withdraw from the race.

Trump said he made the announcement after meeting with Morris on Thursday and introduced him as a “tremendous businessman and powerful MAGA warrior” who would be better off serving in his administration as a yet-to-be-announced ambassador, according to his Truth Social post.

“Nate is Oxford-educated, tough as nails, LOVES our great nation and will represent the United States very well, abroad or otherwise,” Trump said. “He has a great future in politics or whatever he chooses to do.” (RELATED: Trump’s ploy to blow up Congress over Iran war doesn’t sit well with legal experts)

“When President Trump asks you to serve your nation, you answer the call,” Morris’ campaign told the Daily Caller, adding that Morris is proud to be part of the Trump administration.

Trump followed up on that announcement by endorsing Republican candidate Andy Barr in the Kentucky race.

“I supported Andy years ago, in his first run, and every other one, for Congress, and he never let me down,” Trump said of Barr.

Morris joined Barr’s endorsement in a statement. “As President Trump said, Andy knows what it takes to get things done and achieve BIG for the America First agenda. »

“It’s time for all Kentuckians to rally around our next senator, Andy Barr!” » said Morris.

Morris, Barr and former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron are vying for incumbent Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell’s soon-to-be vacated seat. However, Morris has previously lambasted his opponents and linked them to Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnel.

Morris said Barr and Cameron would be “puppets” for McConnell, whom he accused of sabotaging Trump’s agenda.

Barr said he was “honored to have the full and complete support of President Donald J. Trump!”

Barr’s campaign drew the caller’s attention to a statement made by Barr, who said he was grateful for Morris’ friendship and noted that his “passion for serving our fellow Kentuckians and his dedication to the MAGA movement made him a great candidate and will make him an incredible ambassador.”

“Congratulations to Mitch McConnel for finding his man,” Brandon Moody, general consultant for Cameron’s campaign, told the caller.

Cameron remains in the race, his campaign told the Caller.
