3 must-see Prime Video shows to binge this weekend (February 13

I don’t know about you guys, but I blinked and Valentine’s Day weekend was there, right in front of me. Even though it’s technically the time to indulge in romantic stuff, that doesn’t mean you should abstain or spend your time watching content that tends to make you cringe or nauseated. I won’t be!
This weekend, I’m intentionally stepping away from the sappy and sweet and picked out a few must-watch shows, ranging from an entertaining and addictive crime comedy to a surprising thriller about sibling rivalry that spent 11 weeks on Amazon Prime Video’s Top 10 list. But first, we’re kicking things off with an all-new documentary series about the ongoing overhaul of one of America’s greatest sports, professional basketball. Let’s go ride.

Soul Power: the legend of the American Basketball Association
Alleluia! It’s basketball season, and with March Madness just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to watch the latest sports docuseries from Prime Video, Soul Power: the legend of the American Basketball Association. It presents the definitive history – and is the first documentary series – of the ABA and tells the story of how it permanently reshaped not only professional basketball, but player empowerment and American sports culture as a whole.
Chronicle of the launch of the league in 1967, Power of the soul explores how a collection of franchises, the majority of which closed their doors or relocated, managed to challenge the National Basketball Association on and off the court for 9 captivating seasons. It also takes an in-depth look at the league’s seminal influence on the sport as well as its landmark innovations in basketball, including the introduction of the 3-point shot, the Slam Dunk Contest, the empowerment of women to take on larger roles in the sports business, and the rise of superstar players like Moses Malone, Julius Erving, Spencer Haywood, and more.
You can expect interviews with prominent players and figures who shaped the ABA era, who provide first-hand accounts of the metamorphosis and cultural significance of the league. Using archival footage and expert analysis, the documentary series provides an authoritative look at one of basketball’s most transformative periods and is yet another Prime Video documentary that’s absolutely worth watching.

Get Shorty
A dark comedy, well written and executed with its share of drama, Get Shorty is based on the novel of the same name by Elmore Leonard, borrowing only its basic premise. Despite social assumptions, the series is not a direct remake of the 1995 film.
Get Shorty follows hitman Miles Daly (Chris O’Dowd) as he attempts to leave his criminal past behind and become a Hollywood film producer. He thus hopes to win back his ex-wife and his daughter. When he teams up with wrecked and anxious film producer Gladys “Rick” Moreweather (Ray Romano), he quickly discovers the difficulties of using laundered money to produce a film while navigating the dangerous intersection of the film industry and organized crime.
The mix of intense crime drama, witty dialogue, and completely absurd situations makes for a comically addictive watch. This underrated gem also features a biting critique of the Hollywood film industry and an extremely talented cast, including O’Dowd, Romano, Peter Stormare, Topher Grace, Felicity Huffman, Heather Graham, Billy Magnussen, Steven Weber and Raymond Cruz.

The best sister
If you’re in the mood for a dynamic thriller, look no further than The best sistera limited series starring Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks. Based on the 2019 novel by Alafair Burke, The best sister focuses on two estranged sisters who are violently forced to reunite under dark circumstances.
Chloe (Bienne) is a high-profile media executive who lives a picturesque life with her husband, Adam (Corey Stoll of House of Cards), and his son, Ethan (Maxwell Acee Donovan of This 90s show). Meanwhile, Nicky (Banks) struggles to make ends meet while battling addiction and instability. When Chloe’s husband – and Nicky’s ex – is brutally murdered and her son becomes the prime suspect, the sisters’ complex relationship is tested as they band together to protect the boy while unraveling an extremely complicated family history littered with shocking secrets.
The chemistry between Biel and Banks is undeniable, and the engaging premise is sure to pique your interest with its themes of addiction, trauma, sibling rivalry, and what it means to be a “better” sister. All of this is examined in a high-stakes atmosphere with compelling murder mystery twists and raw depictions of complex family dynamics, allowing for an intriguing “whodunit” feel that thrives on the tension between its two leads.
Between the lineup of movies, shows, documentaries, and stand-up specials on Prime Video, there’s never a shortage of content to watch, even though it can be difficult to narrow down your selections. That’s why it’s important to familiarize yourself with the platform’s practical features before going on a binge. Once you’ve done that, don’t forget to review the streamer’s February lineup. You never know what gems are hidden there, just waiting to be discovered.
