Former J6 Prosecutor Heads to Jail After Bizarre Stabbing Case—Why ‘Lectern Guy’ Is Not Happy About It – RedState

Former J6 prosecutor Patrick Scruggs was sent to the county jail Monday after pleading guilty to stabbing a driver multiple times during a road rage attack in 2023.

How things have changed in the world of law and order.

The 41-year-old former federal prosecutor, who helped indict Florida residents including “Lectern Guy” Adam Johnson for their role in the Jan. 6 protest at the Capitol, was sentenced to 90 days in jail, five years of probation and $100,000 in restitution to the victim.

Three months in prison. For stabbing a man. Several times. Everything was filmed. Many witnesses saw what he did.

90 days.

The judge who accepted the negotiated plea deal told Scruggs he was given a “golden opportunity.”

The incident was bizarre. Scruggs found himself involved in a chaotic road rage incident after the Lexus of a man named Blake Sharp stopped abruptly in traffic and then collided with his Honda Civic. Sharp reportedly had a medical emergency.

Witnesses described Scruggs approaching Sharp’s locked car in an agitated state, using a small pocket knife to smash the driver’s side window, reaching inside and stabbing the man multiple times in the left arm. The damage was extensive: Sharp’s tendons were severed and an artery was severed.

Scruggs then called 911, admitting, “I just stabbed him!” »

The former prosecutor said he believed Sharp was impaired and posed a danger to others on the bridge. He initially invoked Florida law in his defense, but a judge threw it out, finding Scruggs acted out of anger rather than reasonable fear.

Johnson quickly pointed out on

Johnson entered the U.S. Capitol in a mostly peaceful protest, went to an area near House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office, collected her lectern and carried it through the building to the Capitol Rotunda. His smiling, waving image is one of the most famous of that era.

Scruggs, Johnson said, “was caught on video a few years ago smashing a motorist’s vehicle window and stabbing him repeatedly, over and over again in front of a dozen witnesses.”

He noted that the prosecutor initially faced charges that could have led to a maximum sentence of life in prison. A golden opportunity, indeed.

“Here’s the best part,” Johnson added, “he gets to keep his law license at the end of all this.”

“I guarantee (other people he’s suing) won’t get the same terms as him. I went to jail for 75 days for criminal trespassing, and this guy is going to serve 15 more for stabbing someone over and over again,” he concluded. “Make sense of this.”

The judge told Scruggs, “I hope you can keep your livelihood and practice law, and I hope you do good with it.” »

On the other hand, how many lawyers have been disbarred following the events surrounding the Capitol protest?
