Representative Cory Mills, R-Fla., Faced with a trial to request his expulsion on the alleged non-payment of paying thousands of dollars in rent in a property in Washington, DC, according to court documents.

In a complaint filed by the DC Superior Court last week, Bozzuto Management Company said that the Congress member had not paid a total of $ 85,009 in rent between March and July. The monthly property rent, according to the court file, is $ 20,833.

The management company asks the court to allow him to expel the mills and for an order requiring that he submitted future monthly payments with the court until the case is resolved. A first hearing is scheduled for September 8.

The trial was reported for the first time by Roger Sollenberger, an independent journalist.

A large resident book accompanying the management company trial seems to show that Mills have not repeatedly paid its rent in time and that it has frequently evaluated the costs for late payments. He moved into the property in June 2023.

According to court documents, Mills were served in January with a notice to pay more than $ 18,000 in rent due to February 26 and an opinion of the company’s intention to submit legal action.

A Mills spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comments on Monday evening, but Mills published screenshots on X earlier in the day which, according to him, showed him “asking on several occasions of payment ties and, again, as I tried with management today, he failed to treat”.

A lawyer listed for the management company did not immediately respond to requests for comments on the publication of the social media of Mills.

In February, police opened an investigation into Mills for an alleged assault report in an apartments building on the same block as that of the rental dispute. The Mills’ office said that he had “vehemently” denied any reprehensible act, and a police spokesman at the time said that the Congress member had not been arrested and that no accusation had been filed.

Mills represents the 7th district of the Florida Congress since January 2023.
