Lauren Hemp: England ‘thrive under pressure’ despite slow Euros start
The hemp Lauren urges England to trust their quality while their female hopes for Euro 2025 are at stake after a 2-1 defeat against France.
The lionesses showed disturbing signs in the female opening of the team 2025 of the team, falling to a 2-1 defeat against France in Zurich.
The Manchester City striker said that the team was disappointed, but ready to make the two of them, where they will face the former Dutch side of Sarina Wiegman.
“I think this team, most of the time, we prospered under pressure,” said hemp. “Obviously, this is one of these situations, each match in which we are going to we want to win. According to the way we acted the last 10 minutes of the game, we know what is at stake, and we obviously want to go as far as possible.
“We are reigning champions, it is important to remember and gain confidence.”
“Obviously, we are really disappointed by yesterday’s result, but there are still games of the match yesterday where we can gain particular confidence in the match on Wednesday.
“We started hard and I thought we also finished hard. Obviously, in some games of the game, we can improve, but we will think about it today and really work hard in what we can advance in the Wednesday match.
“We know that we have to win the next two games and I think the fight at the end of the match has shown how ready we are doing for this team and how much we want to make sure that we are going in the next round.”
The performance of England was interrupted with problems, and one in particular that hemp has highlighted was negligence in possession.
“I think quality and possession are a massive thing,” she added. “We like it to be proud of this as a team.
“Unfortunately, sometimes in the games that occur, we make mistakes after error, but it is important that we are obviously thinking about this and we know that we can be better.
“But something we can remove is the fight we have shown, and even when things don’t happen, we can always try to run it. We got closer, even if we were not at our best, which means that we can compete with the best, even if we are not necessarily in our best.
“We know that you cannot afford to do it in this competition, so we will make sure that our best has entered the next match.”
Speaking about her own role in the Lionesses team, the 24 -year -old woman explained how her place in the team has changed during her 64 appearances.
“I always feel like a young player who has just come, but I must realize that there are also a lot of players younger than me.
“Everyone has so many different leadership qualities, whether in the field or on the field. And I am probably more a leader on the field the way I play. I do anything for this team, and I fight until I spend a good game or a good game. So yes, I think a lot of people could learn that too.”
England will now turn their attention to the Netherlands, who have exceeded Wales during a 3-0 victory in their first match in euros. If the lionesses have to lose the meeting and France is to beat the Wales, this would mean a confirmed outing in the group phase for England.
