Leaked images show Microsoft’s new Xbox Cloud Gaming controller

I revealed earlier this year that Microsoft was working on a new Xbox controller that included Wi-Fi to connect directly to Xbox Cloud Gaming servers. It now appears that this controller has leaked, thanks to new images from Brazilian regulator Anatel.
Tech Blog released the images today, showing a new, smaller Xbox controller that resembles third-party options from 8BitDo and HyperX. The controller is made by Microsoft and includes 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 5.3, and a USB-C port. There’s also what appears to be some sort of pairing button at the top of the controller, as well as a D-Pad, bumpers, and triggers.
Both the white and black models are pictured in the leaked photos, and it appears this new controller includes its own 500mAh rechargeable battery. Microsoft’s existing Xbox controllers, except for the Elite series, use AA batteries or removable rechargeable battery packs.
A new Xbox controller was originally planned for 2024, alongside a canceled Xbox Series X refresh. But this Xbox Cloud Gaming controller is separate and designed to complement Microsoft’s expanded cloud gaming efforts with Game Pass. It will connect directly to Xbox Cloud Gaming servers to reduce latency, much like Google’s Stadia controllers worked. Microsoft is also still testing free, ad-supported access to cloud games and is rumored to be preparing to launch the Xbox Elite Controller Series 3 later this year.
